Our overview of the NBA Finals reveals what boiling point the series between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors has already reached! I can tell you one thing in advance: If the Dubs win, it’s all over!
But it’s not that far yet and the C’s have already proven several times that they give their best in such dicey situations! At the latest at the end of my Celtics Warriors forecast, the reader will realise that I firmly expect a highly dramatic deciding game!
During the live broadcast of the last duel of these exciting NBA Finals – when even Mats Hummels was allowed to give his two cents as a guest commentator – it became clear to me that the Celtics are standing in their own way.
The defensive concept of the Green-Whites works for long stretches of the game – only the devastating crunch-time offence, the many ball losses and the missed free throws put a spanner in their works!
Consequently, the Warriors do what they have to do, but without setting any extraordinary accents themselves. Because the Warriors’ big problem remains that their superstars, with the exception of Stephen Curry, deliver top performances far too irregularly.
The Warriors serve up their matchpoint at TD Garden – and even though they won the last two games by a ten-point difference each, I expect the C’s not to give any unnecessary gifts this time.
Especially since Boston is made up of experienced players who are by no means “green” behind the ears and have already mastered these all-or-nothing situations several times! When it comes to nerves of steel, the Celtics are a force to be reckoned with.
The bitter defeat in Game 5 against the Bucks was followed by an amazing performance by Jaysom Tatum, who led his team to victory in the following two games.
Then against Miami, the Green and Whites were even down 2 times in the course of the Conference Finals and still won in the end thanks to a dramatic Game 7 – in Miami, to boot!
The C’s have therefore already managed to solve this dicey situation they are now in several times – and that against probably the two absolute top teams of these NBA playoffs! The Warriors, on the other hand, have had the easier schedule to deal with.
The home advantage will certainly give Boston a huge boost as well. Furthermore, I expect the Green and Whites to get back to their real strength that has served them faithfully so far – converting three-pointers.
I haven’t seen enough of that in the last two games – and that despite the fact that they owe their final appearance precisely to precise shots from beyond the arc!
Moreover, the Warriors are not unbeatable, especially as Draymond Green is playing so badly that he even drives his own mother to despair! The Green and Whites just need to avoid the many unnecessary slip-ups in the build-up to the game and they should be able to bag the win!
The leading bookmakers also seem to understand that this is not an impossibility for the home side.
Judging by their Celtics Warriors odds, they are also almost all expecting a deciding game!
With odds of just 1.60, the C’s are the clear favourites to win – a view I wholeheartedly share – while the Californians are currently being offered around 2.40 for a successfully converted match point.
Summary: The Celtics have the all-important home court advantage in the playoffs on their side and are still the better team in my eyes, which has simply allowed itself too many blunders so far.
However, Boston is always at its best when its back is against the wall – as it was against the Bucks and Heat, when it secured a Game 7 to advance.
Moreover, the Warriors are not convincing enough to win the game on their own merits and without all the gifts from the Green and White. That’s because Wiggins and Green aren’t doing enough going forward.
