Formula 1 GP Imola: Schedule & Broadcast

Date, time, broadcast – when is the Imola Formula 1 GP?

The Imola Formula 1 GP on 24 April 2022 is the fourth race of the 2022 season – and the first in Europe this season. The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will be held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.

The Formula 1 GP of Imola will start on 24 April at 15:00 German time.

As usual, the teams will start the race weekend with two practice sessions on Friday.

The first two are scheduled for Friday at 14:00 and 17:00 German time. The third practice session will take place on Saturday at 13:00 CET, followed by qualifying from 17:00 onwards.

Who will broadcast the Imola GP in Germany?

There are two ways to watch the Formula 1 Imola Grand Prix in Germany this weekend: The pay-TV channel Sky, which shows all F1 races this season live, or the private channel RTL.

RTL is allowed to broadcast a total of four races live this season – and one of them is the Emilia-Romagna GP in Imola on 24 April.

On RTL, however, only the race on Sunday can be seen live, not the practice sessions or qualifying.

Not so on Sky Sport F1: Here, all three practice sessions, as well as qualifying and, of course, the race will be broadcast live and in full.

Via Sky Ticket or Sky Go, the three free practice sessions as well as qualifying and, of course, the race can be watched in the Formula 1 Livestream.

The track of the Emilia-Romagna Formula 1 GP

The Formula 1 GP of Emilia-Romagna, as the race is called since 2020, is held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.

Imola has a great tradition in Formula 1, with races always held here from 1980 to 2006. The circuit was opened in 1953 and goes back to an idea of Enzo Ferrari.

In 1968, the track was renamed Autodromo Dino Ferrari after Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredo (Dino), who died at an early age. After Enzo Ferrari’s death in 1988, the name was expanded.

Since there is already the Italian Grand Prix, which is held at the Monza circuit, the race has been held under the name “Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna” since 2020. Emilia-Romagna is the region around Imola.

As the circuit is only 80 km away from Maranello, the headquarters of Ferrari, the race in Imola is also treated as a home race for the Scuderia.

What makes Imola so special?

The Formula 1 Imola GP is one of the few races to be run anti-clockwise.

The most distinctive section was the legendary Tamburello corner. Until it was rebuilt, this was a high-speed left-hand bend where speeds of over 300 km/h were reached.

The year 1994 will always remain sadly associated with Imola, when Roland Ratzenberger was killed in Saturday practice at the San Marino Grand Prix and Ayrton Senna in the race one day later – Senna was killed in the Tamburello bend.

After Senna’s death, the fast curve was modified. Since then, the Tamburello has been a slow S-shaped chicane (left-right-left).

As the Emilia-Romagna GP, races were held here in 2020 and 2021.

Who is favourite for the Imola Grand Prix 2022?

Who will win the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola 2022?

Going by the results of the first three races of the season, there could be a Ferrari win at the Eimilia-Romagna Formula 1 GP at Imola.

Charles LeClerc has won two of the first three races this year – most recently in Australia – and has set the fastest race lap in all three GPs.

Formula 1 betting odds for Imola also have the world championship leader as the top favourite to win in Emilia-Romagna. Can Charles Leclerc really ensure a Ferrari home victory? The Ferrari factory in Maranello is only 80 kilometres away.

By the way, the last Ferrari victory in Imola was in 2006 by Michael Schumacher.

Max Verstappen is seen as Leclerc’s biggest rival. He has retired from two out of three GPs this season due to a technical issue, but he won the race in between in Saudi Arabia – ahead of Leclerc.

That aside, Verstappen is last year’s winner of the Imola GP, having won here in 2021. Ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.

What are Lewis Hamilton’s chances at the Imola Formula 1 GP on 24 April?

The vice world champion of the previous season is considered an outsider. At the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne he finished fourth. dAprior to that in Saudi Arabia he only managed 10th place. At the season opener in Bahrain, however, Hamilton finished third.

Thus, if the race goes well, he could already be a candidate for a top-3 finish. Just like his team-mate George Russell.

Or will it be the turn of Leclerc’s team-mate Carlos Sainz, who is listed right behind Leclerc and Verstappen in the Imola Grand Prix predictions and betting odds?
