Union Berlin – Eintracht Frankfurt
The Bundesliga enters its final matchday before the international break this weekend. And Sunday is once again dominated by the German Europa League teams this week. Two teams whose European tour came to an end during the week will kick things off at 15:30. At the Alte Försterei in Köpenick, Union Berlin will receive Eintracht from Frankfurt. Both teams are looking to finally get another three points after recent rather disappointing performances in the league.
Union Berlin impressed with a great performance at the beginning of the season and continued their dominance by winning five Bundesliga games in a row after the winter break. However, the Eisernen remained winless in their last four league games. The previous week, Union drew 1-1 with VfL Wolfsburg. Nevertheless, Union still occupies fourth place in the league.
Their opponents from Frankfurt are currently two places below them. Eintracht, too, has not won any of its last three Bundesliga games. In addition, the SGE was eliminated from the Champions League for good against Napoli on Wednesday. Find out which team can stop the negative trend at the weekend in our Union vs Frankfurt betting tips.

Union Form & Balance Check
All in all, the Ironmen are playing an outstanding season. Urs Fischer’s team is currently in fourth place in the Bundesliga and thus still in a good position to qualify for the Champions League for the first time. In the new year, the team from Köpenick has only lost one match in the Bundesliga.
However, Union has also gone four games without a win in the league. The previous week, FCU did not manage more than a 1-1 draw at VfL Wolfsburg late on Sunday evening. And the Eisernen were also disappointed in the Europa League on Thursday. Union was eliminated in the last 16 of the competition against Saint-Gilloise. After a 3:3 draw in the first leg, the Belgians suffered a heavy 3:0 defeat in the return match.
Home Alte Försterei
The Union players are probably very happy to be playing at home again on Sunday. Because the Alte Försterei in Köpenick is a special kind of venue. With a capacity of only 22,012 spectators, the stadium offers a close and electrifying atmosphere that gives the Eisernen an impressive home advantage. This season, Union has conceded only one defeat in a must-win match at home.
The defensive performance of the Köpenickers in particular is outstanding at home. The opponents simply cannot find a way through and fail against the massive bulwark of the Union defence. In eleven Bundesliga games at the Alte Försterei, Union conceded only eight goals. Only at the start of the new year, against Hoffenheim, did Union concede more than one goal.
Union facts & analysis
– Currently in fourth place in the Bundesliga table.
– Second best defence in the Bundesliga
– Still without a home defeat this Bundesliga season
Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
Eintracht Frankfurt are once again establishing themselves in the upper reaches of the Bundesliga table this season, even successfully coping with the added burden of the Champions League. Under the leadership of coach Oliver Glasner, the team is in impressive form and is only five points behind fourth-placed rivals Union Berlin in sixth place in the table.
However, the SGE did not always prove its strength in recent games. For example, Eintracht has gone three games without a win in the league. Last weekend, Frankfurt did not manage more than a 1-1 draw at home against relegation candidates Stuttgart. And things did not go well for the Hessians in the Champions League either. Frankfurt lost to SSC Napoli in the round of 16 over two games with a total of 0:5.
Kevin Trapp is once again proving this season that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. In the current season, the 32-year-old keeper has already shown his class several times and held on to important balls. His record of five games to nil speaks for his strength in the box. Together with his team, he has defended successfully so far and conceded only 34 goals – one of the best defensive performances in the Bundesliga.
Throughout the squad, however, the SGE is currently feeling the high strain on the players. Many players are running on fumes. Eintracht’s squad is not as broad as Dortmund’s or Bayern’s, for example. Jesper Lindstrøm, a key player, is now missing for several weeks. How the Eagles deal with this situation will become clear in the next few games.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– Fourth best offence in the league.
– Currently sixth in the Bundesliga
– Still without a win away from home in 2023
Predicted lineup – last update on March 18, 2023
Union will again start the game in their usual 3-5-2. Khedira will be the central figure on the six in midfield. For the Eisern, coach Urs Fischer could rotate in a few positions and bring in a few fresh players. FCU will probably only have to do without András Schäfer and Kevin Behrens.
Frankfurt will switch back to a three-man backline after the experiment with the four-man backline against Napoli on Sunday. Captain Rode, however, will be missing for the Hessians with a yellow suspension. In addition, Jesper Lindstrøm, an important component of Frankfurt’s attack, will not be available. Furthermore, Junior Dina Ebimbe is also still missing due to injury.
