Bayern Munich – FC Augsburg

After the Champions League is before another matchday in the Bundesliga. This weekend, fans can look forward to the 24th round and it is still extremely exciting at the top of the table. Unlike in recent years, the championship has not yet been decided at this point. Currently, the hottest contenders for the title are the record champions from Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The Munich team will play the Bavarian derby against FCA on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Find out whether Nagelsmann & Co. can secure the three points in our Bayern – Augsburg tip.

If we take a closer look at the table before the 24th matchday, we see Bayern at the top with 49 points. However, the Munich team only holds this position due to its significantly better goal difference compared to Dortmund. Their upcoming opponents from Augsburg are in 13th place with a strong 27 points and the Bavarian Swabians currently have an eight-point lead over the relegation place.

Bayern Form & Balance Check

If it’s up to the FC Bayern officials, the record champions are on schedule. In the DFB Cup, Bayern are in the quarter-finals and also in the top flight, the reigning German champions, with two wins over Paris Saint-Germain, secured their ticket to the last eight teams. Only in the Bundesliga, where Bayern is still at the top of the table, have things not always gone well lately. On Saturday, Bayern face FCA, a team with whom the record champions still have a score to settle. The defeat in the first leg was the first of two this season and the FCB have always scored at least one goal in 103 of their 104 league games, except for the first leg in Augsburg.

Unbeatable with Coman

The record champions must do their homework before the showdown with Borussia Dortmund in a few weeks. Just as well, Bayern fans will be thinking, that Coman will be back on board on Saturday. The Frenchman has not yet lost a game this season. In 16 games, there have been ten wins and six draws. He was not involved in the two defeats against Augsburg and Gladbach. Moreover, it is extremely unlikely that Bayern will lose on Saturday. Since the 2011/12 season, the Munich side have not lost both games of the season against a team.

Bayern facts & analysis

 – Top of the Bundesliga table.
 – Still without a home defeat
 – Last won 2-0 against PSG

Augsburg form & balance check

FCA, along with Gladbach, are among the teams that have managed to inflict a defeat on FC Bayern this season. On Saturday, however, a completely different house number awaits in Munich than in the first half of the season. If we take a closer look at the performance of the Bavarian Swabians away from home, then Augsburg will have to be careful not to suffer a defeat. They have lost all four of their last away games and conceded a total of twelve goals. Nevertheless, their record away from home is not bad at all. In the eleven games they have played so far, they have earned ten points (three wins, one draw and seven defeats). Most recently, FCA suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hertha from Berlin.

Extremely strong at home

The bottom line is that FCA’s season is more than respectable. Coach Enrico Maaßen’s team currently has 27 points on its account, which puts it a full eight points above the bottom line. They are even nine points clear of a direct relegation spot – more than ever before this season. One of the reasons why things are going much better for FCA this season are the home games. The Bavarian Swabians have won all of their last four games in front of their own fans. With a balanced record of five wins, five losses and two draws, FCA are in eleventh place in the home table.

Augsburg facts & analysis

 – Currently in 13th place.
 – Lost last 4 away games
 – First leg won 1:0

Predicted line-up – last updated 9 March 2023

FC Bayern will again swap in one or the other position in the upcoming match against FCA. Nagelsmann could rely on a 3-5-2 again, with Stanisic moving to the bench and Pavard coming into the three-man backline. Gnabry could play on the flanks for Coman. On the left, Davies will probably be preferred to Cancelo again. Otherwise, Choupo-Moting and Müller will again play up front. FCA will try to keep the game open as long as possible with a 4-4-2. Coach Maaßen is relying on the same eleven that last won 2-1 against Bremen. Beljo and Berisha are expected to provide the necessary relief in attack.
