On the penultimate matchday of the 2020/21 season of the Premier League, the clubs of Southampton and Leeds United meet at St. Mary’s Stadium. Both teams can only improve their position in the table in the final spurt of the season.
With two wins in a row, both the Saints and the Whites have been in good form recently. Looking at the betting odds comparison before the Southampton vs Leeds tip, an even match with slight advantages for the visitors is on the cards.
Southampton FC are in 14th place in the table with 43 points after 36 matchdays. This gives the Saints a reassuring 16-point lead over the first relegation place.
Leeds United have ten points more than their opponents and are four places ahead of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team.

Four days later, Fulham were also defeated 3-1 at St Mary’s. The problem area, however, is and remains the defence. 63 goals conceded are only surpassed in the Premier League by West Brom (70).
More than 12th place is no longer possible for the club in the final sprint. The home side will be without William Smallbone, Ryan Bertrand and Oriol Romeu. Jan Bednarek will only be available at short notice.
This season, Leeds United celebrated their return to the Premier League after an absence of 16 years. And after only 36 matchdays, the promoted team can already boast an impressive tally of 53 points and 10th place.
Under coach Marcelo Bielsa, who took over the club in the second division in June 2018, the Whites play some respectable attacking football, although it is always at the expense of their defence.
The coach is regarded as an obsessive and meticulous worker who tactically grinds his players until every professional knows his role perfectly inside out.
Since the club’s owners have been generous in the transfer market, the squad also has the necessary quality. So there has already been a win against Man City or draws against Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea this season.
Even international business is still possible in the final phase. But with six points behind 7th place and West Ham, as well as the worse goal difference, the chances are only purely mathematical.
In the last nine rounds, the Whites have only suffered one defeat, a 0:2 at Brighton. On the last two matchdays, there was an impressive 3:1 at home against Spurs as well as a 4:0 at Burnley.
There have been nine wins away from home. The last time the club won a double-digit number of league away games was in the 1973/74 season. At that time, by the way, they also became champions.
The discovery of the season is Patrick Bamford, who now has 15 goals and 7 assists to his name. The visitors, on the other hand, will have to do without Helder Costa and Adam Forshaw. Pablo Hernandez and Robin Koch are still uncertain.
