Tennis Today – Matches on September 4

The field is thinning out rapidly; including the night session, only eight men’s singles matches are scheduled for this Friday. I have US Open tips for you today on six of these eight matches.

I’ll present my six selected tennis bets in a concise manner, covering, among others, the matches featuring Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton—the two highlights of the day, which can be made even more exciting with a suitable odds boost.

Tennis Tips Today – September 4, 2026: Who will make it to the quarterfinals?

For the men’s singles tournament in New York, I’m back on the front lines with my US Open picks today, because I’m just incredibly interested in this tournament.

Fortunately, I won’t have to stay up too late for the defending champion’s next match. Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to take the court in the early evening hours (German time).

US Open Picks Today, September 4: Medvedev – Rinderknech (6:30 p.m.)

Rinderknech will have to win a lot of points on his first serve today just to stay in the match against the Russian. After all, Medvedev usually puts on his best performances right here in New York.

From his deep return position, the former champion will in all likelihood gradually neutralize Rinderknech’s serve-and-volley attacks, forcing the Frenchman to take unnecessary risks from the baseline.

Rinderknech will put up a fight on his serve, but over the full course of the match, Medvedev’s baseline wall will overwhelm him.

My pick: Medvedev is more versatile in his game!

US Open betting tonight: Wu – Alcaraz (7:00 p.m.)

Wu serves decently, but from the baseline he lacks the power needed to counter Alcaraz’s athleticism and varied pace changes. As soon as the Spaniard dictates the rally and pushes Wu back behind the baseline, the Chinese player’s error rate will rise rapidly.

My prediction? Alcaraz will take control early on and cruise through without dropping many sets. In the process, he’ll also gain more valuable match experience after his long injury layoff!

My pick: Wu should be an easier opponent for Alcaraz than Faria was!

US Open today: Michelsen – Mérida Aguilar (9:30 p.m.)

Mérida Aguilar is playing with tremendous confidence and remarkable consistency from the baseline. The 21-year-old Spaniard is undoubtedly the surprise of the tournament. After defeating Fucsovics, he also sent Andrey Rublev packing in the second round following a four-set thriller (6-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4).

While Michelsen has home-court advantage and strong angle shots, he quickly crumbles under aggressive pressure on his second serve.

In my opinion, the Spaniard will neutralize Michelsen’s strong serving game today by returning the ball deep, thereby forcing the American into grueling rallies—which he loves!

My pick: Merida Aguillar is currently a tad better!

US Open Prediction Today: Lehecka – Tsitsipas (11:00 p.m.)

While Tsitsipas dominated their early matchups, Lehecka won the last two matches in straight sets (2-0 in Indian Wells and 2-0 in Antwerp).

Lehecka has thus uncovered the key to beating Tsitsipas in these last two meetings. With flat, lightning-fast groundstrokes, the Czech will consistently attack Tsitsipas’s one-handed backhand today and neutralize his powerful serve early on with his own return.

Although Tsitsipas is showing tremendous fighting spirit in New York, he’s making too many unforced errors on his backhand side during crucial moments under pressure. The Czech simply seems more solid and error-free on this surface.

My pick: Lehecka knows how to play against Tsitsipas!

US Open Bets Today, September 4: Vacherot – Tiafoe (1:00 a.m.)

As the No. 11 seed and an absolute crowd favorite in New York, the public’s sympathies naturally lie with Frances Tiafoe. He prevailed in the second round in four hard-fought sets and traditionally plays his best tennis on hard courts.

Tiafoe will therefore use the supportive crowd to his advantage to build momentum on break points and will counter Vacherot’s attacks with his footwork: The American isn’t about to let a spot in the round of 16 slip away in front of his home crowd!

For his part, Vacherot certainly has the serving potential to keep every set close, but he still lacks significant experience when facing top-15 players in best-of-five matches.

My pick: Tiafoe + the crowd = Round of 16!

US Open Picks Tonight: Shelton – Shapovalov (2:30 a.m.)

Whether it was a five-set thriller at Wimbledon, a hard-court battle in Shanghai, or most recently the indoor semifinal in Dallas 2026—the American has come out on top in all four of his matches against Shapovalov so far!

Shelton therefore has the clearly more solid foundation in this matchup. When both players fire shots with speed from the baseline, it’s Shapovalov who commits “unforced errors” under pressure and takes far too many risks on his second serve. We’ve seen this time and again so far!

Shelton, on the other hand, is currently serving with unshakable confidence in front of his home crowd and making the better impression! Aside from that, he’s already knocked two big names—Hurkacz and Griekspoor—out of the tournament.

My pick: Shelton is clearly the better player right now!
