Tennis Today – Matches on Oct. 14

In addition to my tennis tips for today, there’s some good news from a German perspective: With Carlos Alcaraz’s elimination, Alexander Zverev—who has also reached the Shanghai quarterfinals—will soon officially become the world’s number one.

In the meantime, I’ve taken another look at the tournament in Shanghai for you, reviewing today’s remaining round-of-16 matches (local time) and taking a closer look at two matches at the WTA tournament in Wuhan.

Tennis Picks Today – Oct. 14, 2026: Who Will Win in Shanghai?

The lineup of my tennis picks today is the same as yesterday’s. Specifically, I’ve included four round-of-16 matchups at the ATP tournament in Shanghai as well as two matches at the WTA tournament in Wuhan.

Alcaraz was surprisingly eliminated early yesterday! A day later, I’m placing bets with various bookmakers on how his conqueror, Zizou Bergs, will fare in his match against Tommy Paul. But I’ve also taken a closer look at the “rivalry” between Medvedev and Tsitsipas.

Shanghai Picks Today, Oct. 14: Medvedev – Tsitsipas (12:00 p.m.)

In their head-to-head record, Daniil Medvedev holds a comfortable 9–3 lead over Stefanos Tsitsipas; on hard courts, the Russian dominates almost at will and has regularly presented the Greek with insurmountable tactical challenges there in recent years.

Medvedev’s ultra-deep backcourt positioning takes the angle off Tsitsipas’s powerful forehand, while the Greek repeatedly struggles on his own serve against the former world No. 1’s precise and deep returns.

Since Tsitsipas commits too many unforced errors on fast surfaces against Medvedev’s extremely error-resistant defensive wall, the entire match dynamic favors the favorite.

My pick: Medvedev advances quite comfortably!

Shanghai betting today: Paul – Bergs (1:30 p.m.)

Zizou Bergs pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament with his victory over Alcaraz! Today, he continues his run in the round of 16.

Tommy Paul and Zizou Bergs are facing off for the first time in Shanghai. The 15th-seeded American impresses on fast hard courts with his excellent court coverage, high return accuracy, and incredibly consistent defensive play.

While Bergs plays variably and powerfully from the baseline, he tends to make minor errors under the sustained pressure of Paul’s precise shots.

Since Paul consistently takes the initiative on his opponent’s second serve and maintains the necessary composure in long rallies, his greater experience will prevail.

My pick: Bergs is brought back down to earth!

Shanghai Picks Today: Ruud – Auger-Aliassime (7:30 a.m.)

On hard courts, Félix Auger-Aliassime leads Casper Ruud 3–2 in head-to-head matches, though the Canadian won their most recent encounter on this surface.

On the fast hard courts in Shanghai, Auger-Aliassime has the edge in terms of his arsenal: His extremely powerful first serve and aggressive forehand will put Ruud under constant pressure right from the start.

While Ruud plays with his usual stability and consistency from a defensive stance, he traditionally struggles on this surface to take control of the match against powerful offensive players.

Since Auger-Aliassime’s first serves have a high winning percentage and he consistently dominates his service games, the match dynamics favor the Canadian.

My pick: The surface clearly favors the Canadian!

Shanghai Prediction Today: Van de Zandschulp – Jodar (6:00 a.m.)

Botic van de Zandschulp and Rafael Jodar face off in Shanghai. The experienced Dutchman enters this matchup as the clear favorite in the betting markets, as he boasts greater consistency, a harder serve, and reliable baseline shots on hard courts.

Jodar plays with determination but usually struggles at this level against aggressive opponents. However, since I still don’t consider the Dutchman to be among the world’s elite—despite his deep run at the US Open—I’m betting on the Spaniard for “value”!

My pick: The Spaniard has a good chance of advancing to the next round!

Wuhan Betting Today, Oct. 14: Kartal – Bencic (5:00 a.m.)

Sonay Kartal and Belinda Bencic will face each other for the first time on the tour in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan.

The No. 9-seeded Swiss player Bencic brings her usual quality to the fast hard courts: precise, early ball striking, excellent timing, and high efficiency on her first serve.

Kartal, for her part, plays very aggressively and is highly mobile from the baseline, but she’ll reach her limits against Bencic’s tactical maturity and stability in long rallies.

My pick: Bencic has stronger nerves in the rallies!

Wuhan, Oct. 14: Frech – Swiatek (5:00 a.m.)

The two Polish players, Magdalena Frech and Iga Swiatek, will face off at the WTA tournament in Wuhan. In their head-to-head record, Swiatek leads 1–0 after winning in straight sets on clay in Gdynia in 2022.

On the fast hard courts in Wuhan, No. 7 seed Swiatek enters the match as the favorite. The Polish player dominates with her tremendous baseline dynamism, high pace, and outstanding efficiency on both her serve and return.

Frech puts up a fight with her great mobility and solid defensive play, but she is regularly forced onto the defensive by Swiatek’s aggressive, pressure-packed style.

My prediction: Swiatek will slow the pace down at times!
