This tournament is thrilling! None of the top favorites in the men’s singles have gone through the first few days of competition without dropping a set. That’s another reason why, as part of my tennis tips today, I’m naturally taking a very close look at Zverev’s second match!
Can the German step up his performance compared to the five-set thriller against Sonego?
Speaking of Germans: Struff’s matches and those of the Austrian Rodionov—spiced up with various odds boosts—have also made it onto my betting slip. So let’s go—on to the six predictions!
Tennis Tips Today – September 3, 2026: Several matches are being rescheduled!

By the way, I really wasn’t impressed by Sascha’s opening match. Although he’s facing the same opponent today—one he defeated early on during his French Open victory—without an improvement in his performance, this could very well be another nail-biter…
US Open Picks Today, September 3: Auger-Aliassime – Khachanov (5:00 p.m.)
Auger-Aliassime is having the season of his life in 2026 and is smashing his first serve with tremendous power.
But Khachanov is a typical US Open beast: If the Canadian’s second serve is too erratic, the Russian pounces extremely aggressively and dictates the point with his flat forehand.
On the hard courts of Louis Armstrong Stadium this afternoon, I believe the return will be the deciding factor: Auger-Aliassime currently brings simply more consistency and confidence from the baseline.
Over the course of a best-of-five match, Khachanov’s defense will eventually crumble. Especially since the Russian has already put in some very poor performances in the lead-up tournaments to the US Open.
My pick: Khachanov can’t be trusted right now!
US Open betting tonight: Darderi – Svrcina (5:00 p.m.)
The two already faced off in a hard-court tournament back in July, which was cut short due to a retirement.
Until the match was called off, however, Svrcina had found exactly the right formula against the Italian on hard court: He hit the ball extremely early in its ascent, forced Darderi out of his comfort zone behind the baseline, and repeatedly mixed up his rhythm.
If the Czech doesn’t deviate significantly from this game plan, he could pull off an upset victory today, thanks in part to the match experience he gained in qualifying.
My pick: Svrcina has to play against Darderi just like he did in July!
US Open today: Struff – Cerundolo (5:00 p.m.)
On the fast Laykold hard courts in New York, the balance of power on clay shifts. With his hard serve and serve-and-volley style, Struff has exactly what it takes to put Cerundolo under serious pressure.
If the German keeps the rallies short and doesn’t let Cerundolo find his rhythm, the favored Argentine won’t be able to put up much of a fight from a defensive position on hard court. The bookmakers are also well aware that Struffi has a real chance here!
My pick: Struff will successfully attack Cerundolo’s second serve!
US Open Prediction Today: Sweeny – Musetti (6:30 p.m.)
The Australian qualifier came close to an upset in Round 1 and, after a stellar performance, benefited from Corentin Moutet’s withdrawal. On hard courts, he doesn’t give up a single ball and forces opponents into errors through long rallies.
While Sweeny undoubtedly brings a lot of heart and fighting spirit to the table, he simply doesn’t have the skill level at the Grand Slam level in a best-of-five match to pose a threat to a top-20 player.
Musetti’s one-handed backhand and his drop shots will consequently throw the Australian off his rhythm early on and dictate the rallies.
My pick: Musetti from the baseline with significantly more precision!
US Open betting today, September 3: Mensik – Rodionov (8:00 p.m.)
Rodionov, to the delight of all Austrian tennis fans, is stepping onto the New York hard courts on the back of four straight wins, but he’s taken a massive toll on his stamina in best-of-five matches (nearly 8 hours of playing time under his belt).
My prediction for how the match will play out? Mensik serves flat, applies extreme pressure with his powerful return on the second serve, and constantly forces the left-handed Rodionov into long, energy-sapping rallies.
Over the long haul, Rodionov simply doesn’t have the stamina to last on hard court. Furthermore, his opponents so far haven’t been as versatile in their play as the Czech is.
My pick: Mensik is a seasoned Top 20 player!
US Open Picks Tonight: Zverev – Halys (2:30 a.m.)
The German already got the better of Halys in four sets just a few months ago at the 2026 French Open, among other matches. That’s certainly an advantage heading into this second-round match!
Although the Hamburg native is currently playing far too passively, his physicality comes into play over a best-of-five set on hard court. Halys will therefore try to keep the match short and attack Zverev right away on the return.
However, as soon as Zverev finds his rhythm over the length of the rallies, the match will swing in his favor. But given Sascha’s weaknesses revealed against Sonego, the odds, and the Frenchman’s tenacity, I’m going to predict that Halys will win one set here.
My prediction: Halys already took a set from Zverev at the French Open!
