Just a few minutes ago, in the early morning hours German time, Zverev barely scraped by to qualify for the second round—and here comes my next batch of US Open tips for you today.
This time, we’re focusing on the first second-round matches of the tournament, where I’ll do my best to incorporate my expert knowledge and impressions from the first few days of competition.
Tennis Tips Today – September 2, 2026: Several matches will be rescheduled!

There are plenty of opportunities to do so, as some matches originally scheduled for Tuesday are being rescheduled for today due to yesterday’s rain on the outdoor courts.
The highlight of the evening is the final match: Faria vs. Alcaraz. After all, everyone wants to see if the defending champion is able to seamlessly build on his promising first-round performance after his long break.
US Open Tips Today, September 2: Faria – Alcaraz (2:30 a.m.)
While Faria brings a lot of power to his first serve, he has absolutely no answer at this level for the Spaniard’s athleticism and versatile transition game from the baseline.
As soon as Alcaraz gets into the rallies and picks up the pace, the Portuguese player is likely to stumble over his own error rate. His 14 double faults (!) in the opening match against Brooksby alone are simply unacceptable!
Moreover, the Spaniard’s comeback after a break of several months went significantly better than expected!
My pick: Carlos wins without dropping a set again!
US Open Bets Tonight: Medvedev – Gorzny (5:00 p.m.)
I took a closer look at Gorzny’s opening-round victory: The 22-year-old American battled for a whopping 238 minutes in the first round to defeat Raphael Collignon in five sets. However, over four hours of grueling work take their toll.
His stamina probably won’t last long against Medvedev’s relentless baseline barrage from deep in the court. The Russian expended very little energy against Hugo Gaston in Round 1 (3–0), served strongly, and showed excellent timing on the rallies!
Gorzny, with his many double faults, will inevitably crumble under Medvedev’s return pressure.
My prediction: Medvedev will make short work of the underdog!
US Open today: Merida Aguilar – Rublev (5:00 p.m.)
Merida Aguilar is on cloud nine. The 21-year-old Spaniard, having recently reached the quarterfinals in Montreal, arrived at Flushing Meadows brimming with confidence, where he promptly defeated Marton Fucsovics in the first round without dropping a set.
Rublev, on the other hand, is struggling mightily. In the first round, the Russian narrowly avoided a disaster against Otto Virtanen after trailing 0–2 in sets, winning a nail-biting fifth-set tiebreak.
His nerves are clearly on edge, and his second serve isn’t consistent enough under sustained pressure! If the Spaniard capitalizes on Rublev’s moments of frustration and keeps the rallies flat, he should quickly turn the match in his favor!
My pick: Too many things can go wrong for Rublev!
US Open Prediction Today: Munar – Rinderknech (7:00 p.m.)
Their head-to-head record stands at 1-1—the Frenchman won the match in Metz in September 2022, but Munar swept the last hard-court clash in Miami in straight sets last year.
On the hard courts in New York, however, the odds are shifting back in Rinderknech’s favor. The Frenchman consistently hammers his first serve into the court and uses the fast surface to move immediately to the net.
Munar already had to go the full five-set distance against Atmane in Round 1 and expended a lot of energy. As soon as Rinderknech takes control with his serve, the Spaniard lacks the punch from the defensive end to turn the rallies around on hard courts.
My pick: Rinderknech with more variety and power!
US Open betting today, September 2: Nakashima – Michelsen (8:30 p.m.)
US showdown at Flushing Meadows! Nakashima is on fire right now—he took Cincinnati by storm and simply demolished Sebastian Baez 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. Michelsen, on the other hand, struggled mightily in his opener and committed 8 double faults.
Nakashima is currently serving like a machine and isn’t giving up a single point on his own serve. While Michelsen has reach on his side, he has a poor record against top-20 players and will immediately be put on the defensive by Nakashima’s pace from the baseline.
My pick: Nakashima advances thanks to his massive momentum!
US Open picks tonight: Etcheverry – Fernley (6:10 p.m.)
Etcheverry has significantly more experience in Grand Slam main draws in best-of-five matches, but on hard courts, under constant pressure, he repeatedly falters on his own serve …
My prediction regarding the Brit’s tactics: Fearnley will be extremely aggressive on the return, hitting the ball early in its ascent and immediately putting pressure on Etcheverry’s long wind-up from the baseline.
If Fearnley keeps the pace high and keeps the rallies short, the Argentine will lose his rhythm. This smells like a tight, multi-set battle where the Brit has the momentum on his side.
My prediction: Four sets—but five sets are also quite likely!
