Jannik Sinner and Diego Schwartzman will fight for the ticket for the third round of Wimbledon on Wednesday. It is already the third duel between the two professionals in 2023.
So far, the South Tyrolean has not given his opponent Schwartzman a chance. Will it be the same on grass?
Why I am once again convinced of a clear Sinner victory, I reveal in my Sinner Schwartzman tip.
Sinner had no difficulties in the first round. The turf inexperienced Juan Manuel Cerundolo (6-2, 6-2, 6-2) went down smoothly in three sets.
Only in the third set did he briefly have the chance to gain a mini-lead with two break chances. But Sinner fended off the opportunities and then took two service games from him himself.
The “chestnut” had a total of 13 break opportunities and made use of six of them. Sinner was very stable in his service games. 83 per cent of the points after the first serve and even 89 per cent of the points after the second serve went to his account.
On the other hand, the Argentinean had a meagre record of 56 and 42 percent. Now his compatriot Diego Schwartzman will meet the number eight in the world.
Once again, the 21-year-old is the clear favourite. His odds of victory are in the range of 1.07, Schwartzman (9.00) only has the role of the underdog at Bet365.
Anything other than a quick 3:0 win in this match would therefore be a bit of a surprise. Nevertheless, Bet365 has a very lucrative odds level of 1.72 for this market.
The two defensively strong tennis stars have already met three times. This year, Schwartzman had to retire in Monte Carlo at 6:0, 3:1 for Sinner.
Only one week later, Sinner started again at full throttle. At the ATP in Barcelona, the final score was 6-2, 6-4, although clay is already Schwartzman’s special surface.
In the only hard-court encounter so far in 2021, in the final in Antwerp, he suffered his first defeat, 6-2, 6-2. So far, he has rarely been able to get through service games against Sinner.
In Barcelona he took more than half of Schwartzman’s points after his first serve and even 62 percent after his second serve. The figures were similar in Antwerp.
Sinner made 40 of 51 points in the second round in Monte Carlo. However, Schwartzman was struggling in that match.
On the fast grass, I see even less chances for the 1.70-metre tall Schwartzman than in the duels before. With a win rate of only 40 percent, grass is Schwartzman’s weakest surface anyway.
He lacks the size and the angle on court to win points quickly after serving. Sinner measures 18 centimetres more…
According to the oddsmakers, passing in round one was already a surprise. He had no problems against the out-of-form Miomir Kecmanovic (6-0, 6-3, 6-4).
Kecmanovic took only two of his eight break chances and gave away three quarters of his points on second serve. But Schwartzman was not convincing either with a yield of only 32 percent.
Against Sinner, I don’t see much of a chance that he will be able to serve out his service games in a fluent manner. After all, the Italian is one of the best defensive players on the tour.
At the same time, he showed in round one how confident he is even on his own service. Therefore, I expect a quick 3:0 for Sinner.
Alternatively to the 3:0 tip, a bet on less than 12.5 games for Schwartzman is a good option.
In any set, Sinner is likely to break quickly and not let Schwartzman win more than four games.

Sinner has already dominated Schwartzman in their duels so far – and now it’s onto the least favourite surface for the Argentine, where I see even worse cards for him.
In round one he still had it comparatively easy with a struggling Kecmanovic, but Sinner will prove to be a number too big. Therefore, I come to the following recommendation.
