ATP Tournament in Stuttgart, Quarterfinals, Friday, 16.06.2023
There are just over two weeks to go before the best players meet in London, because the third Grand Slam of the year is coming up in Wimbledon! Before that happens, the spectators in Stuttgart will be able to enjoy a number of top stars.
On Friday, Italy will meet America in the quarter-finals.
Betano sees the number 12 in the world with the advantage, but in my Musetti Tiafoe tip I will now reveal why I expect quite a few games here!
There is no doubt that he is one of the biggest talents in this sport, but somehow the knot doesn’t really want to burst! Lorenzo Musetti can be just as good as a Carlos Alcaraz or a Holger Rune, but he rarely brings it to the court.
At the French Open, it became clear what the 21-year-old still lacks to be one of the best. In the round of 16, he lost 3-6, 2-6, 2-6 to Carlos Alcaraz, who gave him a real lesson.
The Italian still can’t handle the pressure, maybe it helps him that the stage in Stuttgart is a bit smaller now. In any case, he showed no weakness in his first two games.
First he won 7-6, 6-3 against Borna Gojo, then he celebrated a smooth 6-3, 6-3 against Gregoire Barrere. He didn’t have to push his limits either time, but that should change in the quarter-finals against Frances Tiafoe.
After 2022, where he already failed in the first round, things can only get better. Moreover, Musetti knows exactly how to perform against Frances Tiafoe. The two have already met once this year in Rome a few weeks ago.
Musetti won a close match with 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, apart from one abandonment, he has not lost any of the three matches in the main draw! Still, our bettors think he’s more of an underdog.
The average odds show a 2.70 to 1.45, with Frances Tiafoe listed just five places ahead of Musetti. The US-American might also have travelled to the Neckar without great self-confidence, his French Open fell short of expectations.
He lost in the 3rd round to Alexander Zverev, but now he wants to show that he can do much better on the fast grass. The match against Jiri Lehecka in the 1st round, however, showed that not everything is running smoothly yet.
The US American won 7-6, 6-4, taking his only break chance and fending off his opponent’s three. 84% won points on the first serve and 77% on the second – that’s really something to be proud of.
In his first ever appearance in Stuttgart, he is now directly in the top eight and is seeded third. It is interesting to note that none of the five matches against Musetti (including the qualifying rounds) have been played on grass.
My Musetti Tiafoe Tip
Both Frances Tiafoe and Lorenzo Musetti have travelled to Stuttgart as title contenders, now only one of them will be able to advance to the semi-finals. The form curves of the two have been similar recently.
In my analysis, I could see a very strong service from the US American, but Musetti has already won once against Tiafoe this year. All in all, I expect a very close match and my prediction is:
We see more than 22,5 games!
