Who will win the Rome Masters 2022?

Based on his performances so far this season, shooting star Carlos Alcaraz would be the big title contender – but he will not play in the eternal city after his Madrid victory.

Rome Masters 2022: The favourites in the betting odds

Who are the favourites for the Madrid Masters 2022? The list is long and prominent.

Young star Carlos Alcaraz, who has really shaken up the tennis scene this season and won the Masters in Madrid the previous week, will not be competing in Rome. He would certainly have been the big favourite.

Now the field should be a little more open. World number one Novak Djokovic and clay-court king Rafael Nadal are just two examples who are possible picks to win the tournament in Rome Masters betting and odds.

And then there would be Alexander Zverev, who was in the final in Madrid the previous week, and Monte Carlo winner Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Rome 2022 odds for defending champion Rafael Nadal

The clay court king is back in his red kingdom. After Rafael Nadal had to take a break recently due to injury, he made his comeback in Madrid.

Can the Spanish veteran pick up where he left off? That was the question. Nadal won the Australian Open in January, then in Acapulco and reached the final in Indian Wells. He was the season’s dominator until a rib injury stopped him.

In Madrid, Nadal reached the quarter-finals straight away, but the big-playing Alcaraz proved to be too strong. What can the “bull from Manacor” expect in the eternal city?

The official tournament: Internazionali BNL d’Italia – as the Rome Masters is officially called – Nadal has won 10 (!) so far, most recently last year.

This is one of the reasons why Nadal is at the top of the list for Rome Masters betting and tournament winner odds.

Is Novak Djokovic a co-favourite?

Novak Djokovic is now back on the big tennis stage on a regular basis.

After the world number one was not allowed to compete first at the Australian Open and then also at the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami because he cannot present a Corona vaccination, the 34-year-old Serb was allowed to compete again at the Monte Carlo Masters.

However, he already lost his opening match there. “I lack match practice, you can see that,” he had said self-critically afterwards.

This could be a little better now. Djokovic reached the final of the clay-court tournament in Belgrade – but lost to Andrei Rublev.

The form curve continues to climb. At the Masters in Madrid the previous week, he reached the semi-finals, but lost in three sets to super talent Alcaraz.

Djokovic is now definitely a contender to win the Rome 2022 betting odds, having already won five times at the Foro Italico, most recently in 2019. Last year, he reached the final and will play Aslan Karatsev in the opening match.

Does Zverev have a chance of winning the Italian Open?

Is Alexander Zverev’s crisis over?

Germany’s best tennis player at the moment has been eliminated early this season – be it at the Australian Open, in Indian Wells or most recently in Munich.

In between, there were a few bright spots, such as the quarter-finals in Miami or the semi-finals at the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo. But ultimately too little for his demands and ambitions.
At the Madrid Masters, Zverev suddenly stormed into the final. He should obviously feel at home where he won last year.

What are Zverev’s chances in Rome?

If he takes the self-confidence from Madrid with him, the Hamburg player will certainly be one of the title candidates. At least Zverev knows how to win at the Foro Italico – he won here in 2017.

If the Italian Open 2022 betting odds of the bookmakers are anything to go by, Zverev will probably be counted among the extended circle of title candidates. After all, he is ranked No. 3 in the world and feels quite comfortable on the red clay.

Other contenders for the Rome Masters betting odds

Who else besides the quartet of Alcaraz, Nadal, Djokovc and Zverev could be in contention to win the title at the 2022 Italy Masters in Rome? Apparently a lot of them.

The list of title contenders for victory in the Spanish capital is quite extensive according to the bookmakers’ betting odds and forecasts.

If the rankings in the world rankings are anything to go by, Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5), Andrey Rublev (No. 7) and Matteo Berrettini (No. 8) are certainly three contenders for the Rome tournament victory.

Tsitsipas in particular would be something of an insider’s tip in Rome Masters betting. He won the Masters event in Monte Carlo. Anyone who can win in the Principality could do so in Rome.

Rome bets on Jannik Sinner are also interesting. For the South Tyrolean, the Masters in Italy’s capital is more or less a home tournament – he could rise above himself there.

The tournament chances of Ruud (who has already won several clay-court events in his career and has stealthily played his way into the top 10) and Rublev, Djokovic’s most recent winner in his home country of Belgrade, are also more than intact.

The Rome Masters prize money 2022

The prize money of the Masters1000 tournament, which is officially called “Internazionali BNL d’Italia”, totals 5,415,410 euros this year.

The winner of the tournament will receive one million euros. In addition, he can look forward to 1000 world ranking points.

In addition to 500 points for the world ranking, the finalist also receives 568,790 euros as a “consolation prize” for losing the final.
