Van Uytvanck – Korpatsch Tip Lyon Open 31.01.2023

Home » Van Uytvanck – Korpatsch Tip Lyon Open 31.01.2023

WTA Tournament in Lyon, 1st Round, Tuesday, 31.01.2023

The 2023 Australian Open is history and has found a deserving winner in Aryna Sabalenka. The ladies who were sent home early in Down Under are already elsewhere.

From the German point of view, we now deal with a promising talent who still too seldom fulfils her potential and is also rated as an outsider in Lyon by Bet365. In my Van Uytvanck Korpatsch tip, I reveal why I share this prediction.

With the end of the first Grand Slam 2023, the tennis season really begins. In the women’s singles, serial winner Iga Swiatek was surprisingly beaten early on in Australia, but will the world rankings change as well?

The German players were rather disappointing at the other end of the world. But nobody can blame Tamara Korpatsch, the 27-year-old from Hamburg had a tough opponent in Emma Raducanu in the 1st round.

She lost 3-6, 2-6, especially the 19% won points of the second serve caused her early journey home. Korpatsch had not made the strongest impression even before the AO.

In Adelaide as well as in Hobart she failed directly in the 1st round. The 27-year-old has won a title or two in the past year, but only at the mediocre IFT level

After all, the Lyon Open is not an entirely unpleasant memory for her, as 2022 was able to celebrate a victory over Oceane Dodin after surviving the qualifiers and at least make it into the last 16.

But what is especially nice is the fact that she won an ITF tournament in France a few days later. So what happens now in Lyon could have an influence on the coming weeks.

By the way, Korpatsch has already played Alison Van Uytvanck twice in 2022, but with little success. 4-6, 1-6 as well as 4-6, 5-7, both matches ended smoothly. At least the most recent of them was relatively close.

This time, our bettors rate things pretty clear-cut, offering average odds of 1.20 to 4.65. Alison Van Uytvanck is only two places ahead of her German opponent in the rankings, which is why she is such a clear favourite?

The 28-year-old failed to attract attention at the Australian Open, but she also had an overpowering opponent in her 6-7, 2-6 loss to Petra Kvitova. Also because the Czech didn’t let her break once.

Van Uytvanck actually didn’t play badly in Hobart, winning against Magda Linette, the later semi-finalist at the AO. When I look at the past year, I see just as few positive impressions as with Tamara Korpatsch.

At least when it comes to a big stage or a well-known tournament. At the recent Lyon Open, Van Uytvanck showed a relatively strong side, even taking a set off Caroline Garcia in the quarter-finals.

Neither Tamara Korpatsch nor Alison Van Uytvanck have really been able to convince in 2023. But in my eyes, the Belgian presented herself a little more, who was able to defeat Magda Linette, after all a semi-finalist in Melbourne.

Since Korpatsch makes too many mistakes in her game and has a lot of catching up to do, especially on her second serve, I’m siding with Van Uytvanck and betting:

The favourite wins 2:0!
