Tennis Today – Matches on September 1
It may not be a decisive day, but from a German perspective, it’s certainly the most exciting one. That’s because my US Open tips for today cover the matches featuring Struff and Altmaier, while I’ve dedicated an entire article to Zverev vs. Sonego.
Tennis Tips Today – September 1, 2026: Several Germans in action today!
We lost Djokovic the day before yesterday, but that doesn’t make this tournament any less exciting. My US Open picks today aim to make the most of a good sports betting bonus.
I’ve put together six tennis bets, applying my knowledge and hoping to correctly predict the first-round matches of Altmaier and Struff. Later tonight, Alexander Zverev will make his first appearance against Lorenzo Sanogo, for which I’ve naturally prepared a separate expert tip.
US Open Tips for Today, September 1: Comesana – Cobolli (5:00 p.m.)
Cobolli often makes his tournament start difficult for himself and needs some time to warm up—he’s a wild card in the early rounds. But since Comesana is currently completely out of form, he simply doesn’t have what it takes to pose a threat to Cobolli.
Since the Italian regularly gets off to a slow start and struggles to find his rhythm, Comesana could at least take a set before Cobolli closes it out in the end.
My pick: Comesana could take the first set!
US Open bets tonight: Misolic – Cerundolo (5:00 p.m.)
Cerundolo isn’t exactly in top form right now, but this is the perfect opportunity for him to blow off some steam. Misolic is coming off a nearly five-month break and is jumping straight into a best-of-five match—without any match practice, he’ll run out of steam very quickly in such a long battle.
Since Misolic still lacks the stamina and toughness for a long match going to three sets, Cerundolo should wrap this up fairly quickly and decisively.
My pick: This one will be over in about two hours!
US Open today: Ugo Carabelli – Struff (6:30 p.m.)
Although Struff’s performance fluctuates from time to time, he’s a cut above Carabelli on hard courts. Since the Argentine is also completely off his game right now, Struff won’t let this golden opportunity slip away.
And since the court surface also plays enormously in Struff’s favor on his service games and Carabelli can’t seem to get a foothold, everything points to a quick and decisive match without much drama.
My pick: Struff is clearly the better player!
US Open Prediction Today: Jodar – Kokkinakis (7:00 p.m.)
Jodar brings tremendous momentum, flat, fast shots, and impressive form to the table. Kokkinakis has the more dangerous serve, but he’ll quickly find himself in trouble against the rising Spaniard’s high return rate and agility on hard courts.
If Jodar extends the rallies, he’ll run the Australian ragged. But don’t be fooled by the Australian’s high world ranking. Kokkinakis is certainly capable of taking at least one set.
My pick: Kokkinakis could give the Spaniard a hard time at times!
US Open Bets Today, Sept. 1: Svajda – Altmaier (8:30 p.m.)
Altmaier leads their head-to-head record 2–0—on hard courts, the German already knocked the American out in Dallas. Still, Altmaier faces the threat of an early exit on the New York hard courts!
His strengths lie on clay, while the German becomes vulnerable on fast hard courts when under pressure on the return. As an American, Svajda brings home-court advantage and plenty of speed to his flat groundstrokes; he’s extremely quick on hard courts and will repeatedly attack Altmaier’s long backhand wind-up early on.
If Altmaier doesn’t go for easy points right off the first serve, Svajda will drag him into long rallies where the American shows better footwork. In a best-of-five match, Svajda will disrupt the German’s rhythm on this surface.
My pick: Svajda in four or five sets!
US Open picks tonight: Guerrieri – De Minaur (11:00 p.m.)
Anyone betting on Italian qualifier Andrea Guerrieri (No. 187 in the world) is hoping for a major upset. Guerrieri has fought his way through the three qualifying rounds with tremendous tenacity and is playing his very first Grand Slam main-draw match at this level today.
He brings solid pressure to the table and made hardly any unforced errors in qualifying, but he’s entering uncharted territory against the world’s absolute elite. On the other side is Alex de Minaur, one of the tour’s most uncompromising defensive machines.
Historically speaking, the Australian has always delivered his best hard-court performances at Flushing Meadows. His footwork is legendary; he effortlessly absorbs the pace of attackers and returns the ball at lightning speed during transitions.
My pick: De Minaur will put the brakes on the Italian’s euphoria!
