At Arthur Ashe Stadium, fans can look forward to a thrilling clash between their compatriots in the quarterfinals of the US Open. Wednesday Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton will meet each other.
This also makes it clear that a US American is certain to reach the semifinals. But who has the better chance of winning the ticket? I will answer this question in my Tiafoe Shelton tip.
An atmospheric match is expected on Wednesday when Tiafoe and Shelton take the court. Both players are crowd magnets, animating the crowds and getting them roaring.
Two of the biggest U.S. tennis stars will meet in the quarterfinals of what is for them the most important tournament of the year and get to serve on the biggest stage at the facility.
The favorite is top ten player Tiafoe (1.40). Shelton is the young challenger, gets assigned a 3.00 by Bet365. A fair distribution?
Tiafoe was in the semifinals of the US Open last year, taking out Rafael Nadal and narrowly failing to beat eventual tournament winner Carlos Alcaraz.
His hard court record this year is outstanding, winning 21 of his 28 matches. At the US Open, only Adrian Mannarino was able to take a set off him.
But with Learner Tien (6-2, 7-5, 6-1), Sebastian Ofner (6-3, 6-1, 6-4), Mannarino (4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6) and Rinky Hijikata (6-4, 6-1, 6-4) still to come, Shelton has yet to face a great opponent.
Will Shelton be one? The fact is that the 20-year-old is new territory for Tiafoe, who is five years older. The two professionals will face each other for the first time at the US Open.
Shelton has already bowled a US American out of the tournament in the last round, acted as an underdog with similarly high odds as against Tiafoe, dominating Tommy Paul (6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
That Paul was the last stop at the Australian Open. But the newcomer has already reached the quarterfinals of this hard-court classic.
After his performance in the first rounds, he can definitely be expected to win a set. Besides Paul, Pedro Cachin (1-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4), Dominic Thiem (retirement) and Aslan Karatsev (6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0) also failed to reach the 47 of the world.
The 1.30 for a Shelton set is definitely a good choice for a combination match. In general, the match should go more than three sets. Given the strong service games of both pros, the runs are not likely to be short either.
Besides a tiebreak, three runs at a level of 6-3 would be enough for a successful bet.
