Wimbledon, 2nd Round, Wednesday, 29.06.2022

He is THE German hope in Wimbledon, wants to fulfil the high expectations from match to match. Oscar Otte is in absolute top form and already started like the fire brigade in London.

What can go wrong on Wednesday against a qualifier outside the top 200? He is clearly favoured at Betano, and in my Otte Harrison tip I reveal why my betting recommendation also goes in this direction!

2022 is Oscar Otte’s year, but hasn’t he saved the really big highlight for Wimbledon? He has climbed to 36th place in the world rankings, higher than ever before, and can definitely be counted among the extended elite.

In the last few weeks he has become stronger and stronger, reached the semi-finals for the first time and even did it three times. With a little more luck, there would have been at least one final, against stars like Matteo Berrettini (6-7, 6-7) or Daniil Medvedev he held his own.

Now he is Germany’s second best tennis player, and in the absence of Alexander Zverev he can provide the moments of brilliance. All he has to do is keep playing like he did in the first round.

Against compatriot Peter Gojowczyk he progressed without any problems, he did not even have to go close to his performance limit. 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, his opponent saw no country. How will Otte play when he really reaches his own zenith?

He took seven of nine break chances, even gave Gojowczyk a single one, which was, of course, rejected. The serve is his big plus. He always wins over 80% of the points on the first serve, recently it was often enough 90+.

Otte hardly ever gives away opportunities to break. Last year in Wimbledon he showed how he likes the green grass. After winning five sets against Arthur Rinderknecht, the match was unfortunately over, but the wafer-thin defeat with 2:3 against Andy Murray still earned praise.

Of course, the bookmakers have long since taken notice of the German. Since he is serving strongly himself and his opponent comes as a qualifier, the odds show an average of 1.20 to 4.30.

It is fair to say that not everyone knows about Christian Harrison. The US American is ranked 251st and has not won a single ATP title. That’s why he wasn’t expected at Wimbledon.

In the qualifying, however, the 28-year-old coped excellently, even though he had to push himself to the limit from match to match. In the end, it was a 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 against Daniel Masur that ensured his second main draw appearance after 2018.

Will he now actually be able to annoy or even defeat the next German? In the 1st round, the match resumed after a long interruption, he showed nerves of steel, taking a 7-6, 6-1, 7-6 against Jay Clarke.

There were two break chances for his opponent, which sounds like Otto’s strength. For a first 2nd round at a Grand Slam, he wants to score again with mental strength, the fact that he only measures 1.80m should not affect him.

My Otte Harrison Tip

If Oscar Otte builds on recent performances, where should he go, his Wimbledon path? When he serves on grass, opponents almost always lose out.

With Christian Harrison, he now faces a qualifier who hangs far, far behind in the world rankings. I can’t imagine that the American can threaten Otte in his top form. That’s why I’m also betting:

Otte wins outright against Harrison!
