Tennis Tip & Prediction for Daniel Evans – Alejandro Davivodich Fokina

For two years, tennis fans in the Swedish capital had to wait for this moment, and now they are finally experiencing top-level sport on court again. After a twelve-month break, the Stockholm Open has a prominent line-up.

While the best players enjoyed a walk-through in the first round, the second round offers a few thrilling matches. One of them: Daniel Evans against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The bookmakers rate both equally strong, whether I can confirm the odds in my tennis tip?

Although Alexander Zverev has cancelled his participation in Stockholm, a select field will be present in Sweden. Without the Olympic champion, the question of the top favourites is even harder to answer.

Of course, the one who is seeded at position four is also among them: Daniel Evans. The Briton could still break into the top 20 in the final phase of the 2021 tennis year; he is currently ranked 26th.

Two years ago, he celebrated his debut at the Stockholm Open, but was eliminated in the round in which he is now allowed to enter. His results then were typical of the 1.75m Brit.

Advanced against Bernard Tomic in three sets, eliminated against Filip Krajinovic after “extra time” – very rarely is Evens involved in close matches once. In Paris, he dropped out very early, but he also had a strong opponent in Alexander Bublik.

In Vienna, too, he appeared only once, he could not hold Carlos Alcaraz. The 3-6, 4-6 was the only one of the last nine matches that ended in two sets and without a tiebreak. Usually, Evan’s opponents have to prepare for a long match.

The veteran played 13 sets including three tie-breaks at the US Open, only the eventual champion Daniil Medvedev cooked him flat. Twice Bublik, twice Schwartzman, Gasquet, Medvedev, Norrie and Alcaraz – renowned professionals against whom Evans was eliminated last time.

He is also threatened with a very early exit in Stockholm, as his opponent Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is a very strong man. If you look around at Bet365, it is very difficult to place the right bet.

Both players get a 1.90! And this despite the fact that the Spaniard is already a little behind Evans in the world rankings. The number 49 has already made his debut in Stockholm.

One in which he had quite a struggle and also benefited from the fact that his opponent, Mackenzie McDonald, only used one of the twelve break chances. 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 – while Evans could rest, Fokina had to push his limits.

In Paris, he had failed just as early as the Briton, losing in two sets to Marin Cilic. Earlier in Antwerp, he had surprised with a win against Cristian Garin, but then failed to beat Jenson Brooksby.

The young Spaniard’s talent is undisputed, not for nothing has he been able to annoy top players like Casper Ruud or Hubert Hurkacz in recent months. Concentration, however, is one of his big weaknesses.

In Wimbledon, for example, Fokina was eliminated in the first round because he gave away a 2:0 set lead against Sebastian Kudla. So winning a set does not mean that he is the top favourite from now on.

By the way, he has never faced Daniel Evans in a main draw match. It was two years ago that they both played a qualifying match in Estoril, Portugal. 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 – in the end, the clearly younger player triumphed.

A strong and balanced seed list makes it possible that the real top duels are waiting for us early on in Stockholm. It couldn’t be closer between Daniel Evans and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

While Fokina is known for giving away a lead, little Evans is a born fighter. Only Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz have been able to beat him significantly in the past two months.

But since the Spaniard can also annoy the big names on good days, I don’t think we’ll see just two sets on Wednesday. They are both too good for that.
