The track of the Catalonia Formula 1 GP

The Barcelona Formula 1 GP will be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The circuit in Montmeló is located north of Barcelona.

The Circuit de Catalunya was opened in September 1991. That same month, on 29 September 1991, it hosted the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time, and the circuit has remained the venue for this race to this day.

In 1996, Michael Schumacher took his first victory here for Ferrari.

The Catalunya Circuit for the Barcelona Grand Prix

The Formula Barcleona Grand Prix circuit, which has been slightly modified several times over the years, now has a length of 4.655 km. Typical for this circuit are the long curves, which put a lot of strain on the tyres and favour Formula 1 cars with the best aerodynamics.

In addition to the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, the FIM Motorcycle World Championship Grand Prix of Catalonia has also been held here every year since 1996.

Record winners at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya are Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton with six victories each. Ferrari took the most victories with 8.

Winners at Barcelona since 2015

Who is favourite for the Barcelona Grand Prix 2022?

Who will win the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona 2022?

Based on recent results, Max Verstappen is considered a heavy favourite to win the Barcelona F1 GP this Sunday.

The reigning world champion has won the last two races at Imola and most recently at Miami, and has won a total of three of the five World Championship rounds so far.

His biggest rival will be Charles Leclerc. For one thing, the Ferrari driver has won the other two races this season, and he was also second in Miami. He has set the fastest lap in three of the five races so far this year.

Who could be a threat to this season’s top duo at the Catalan GP?

If the bookmakers’ betting odds and predictions are anything to go by, Carlos Sainz will have a role to play. The Spaniard not only has a home race of sorts on Spanish soil, but has also regained some confidence with third place in Miami.

After all, Ferrari is the record winner on the Catalunya asphalt with act victories. Will there be victory number 9 here and maybe even a Spanish champion with Sainz?

The record winner of the Barcelona Formula 1 GP is Lewis Hamilton. The Englishman has already won here six times. He shares this record with Michael Schumacher. Whether he will become the sole record holder on Sunday – that is doubted.

The Mercedes isn’t good enough, so Hamilton and his team-mate George Russell are only the gross outsiders for the Barcelona F1 Grand Prix – behind the Red Bulls and Ferraris.
