Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone, Sunday, 09.07.2023

This weekend Formula 1 is on the road at one of the most traditional circuits. The race at Silverstone is on the agenda, the British GP is a highlight of motorsport culture.

Silverstone was the venue for the first Formula 1 race in history, in 1950 still under the name “Automobile World Championship”. In 2023, the latest winner will be sought at the former military airfield.

This year, all nine race wins went to Red Bull, seven of them snatched by dominator Max Verstappen. Will he outrun everyone again at Silverstone? I look at that and the best bets on the race in my GP Great Britain tip.

For the neutral motorsport fan, the last race in Austria was gruelling. After all, the competition was much closer at the penultimate round in Canada.

But at the home race on the Red Bull Ring, Verstappen again clearly outpaced everyone, even managing to make an extra pit stop at the end to secure the fastest race lap including bonus point.

Team-mate Sergio Perez even managed to make it onto the podium from 15th place. Will there be season win number ten for the high-flyers in Silverstone?

If there are no technical problems or, from Red Bull’s point of view, an unfortunate race interruption in the form of a safety car or a red flag comes into play, it will probably be another Verstappen win.

At odds of 1.30, the Dutchman is once again the clear favourite. If it’s not Verstappen, Bet365 is convinced his Mexican teammate will snatch victory (8.00).

The rival teams’ odds to win are already in double figures, with Lewis Hamilton (11.0), Charles Leclerc (15.0) and Fernando Alonso (17.0).

Bet365 offers top odds for a podium finish for Perez (1.57). If the race goes reasonably normally, he will easily reach the podium in the superior RB19.

Excitement could come from the weather this weekend. Rain is forecast for Saturday and Sunday. The risk of accidents is much higher on wet tracks. In addition, the strategy will play a much bigger role.

But even in the rain, Verstappen is one of the absolute top drivers and Perez has also stood out more often in adverse conditions, for example during his Monaco podium in 2016 in the underperforming Force India.

Those who prefer slightly higher odds also fare well with a tip that both Red Bull drivers will be on the podium at Silverstone (1.83).

If the rain comes, definitely take a look at the over/under market “drivers at the finish”. Under 17.5 riders at the finish are in the 2.40 range, which would require three riders to be eliminated.

For a little less risk, the variant with under 18.5 riders (1.44) can also be chosen. In that case, a collision between two riders would be enough, who would not be able to continue afterwards.

The last 5 races at Silverstone Circuit:

This weekend will be particularly exciting between the chasing teams. Initially, Aston Martin was number two behind Red Bull for a long time. In the meantime, a close three-way battle has formed between Ferrari, Mercedes and the British manufacturer.

Lando Norris in the McLaren also caused a stir, as he was able to keep both Mercedes and Aston Martin drivers behind him in Spielberg.

Even though the track characteristics will be completely different, points should definitely be possible for the local hero. The odds of 1.33 are a bit too low.

With the much sought-after rookie Oscar Piastri now also getting the same updates on the car at Silverstone, there could be a double points finish for McLaren. Betano has strong odds of 3.85 for this market.

Bwin’s duel bets are also lucrative. Here, not only team-internal driver duels are offered, but also the duels between drivers of different racing teams.

The 1.80 for a better race placing of Charles Leclerc over Fernando Alonso moves into the spotlight.

After all, Ferrari presented a strong race pace with the new updates in the last races, while it looked bad for Aston Martin in Spielberg.

Conclusion: Again, at Silverstone, Red Bull will have to beat itself to see a winner other than Verstappen or Perez. The team has been too dominant in every race so far.

Even 15th on the grid could not stop Perez from advancing into the top 3. Therefore, the odds of 1.57 for Perez to finish on the podium at Silverstone are too high in my opinion.

Even with another qualifying slip-up, which is unlikely, he would again be able to move up to the top positions. Therefore, I clearly opt for the following GP Great Britain tip: Perez makes the top 3.
