VfL Wolfsburg vs. SC Freiburg

After the top flight is before another matchday in the Bundesliga. The four German participants had tough tasks ahead of them on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Once again, only FC Bayern was really successful, beating Benfica Lisbon 4:0. For the other three teams, however, there were only defeats. The Wolves were also unable to win at the third attempt. The VfL was beaten 1:3 by RB Salzburg. Now the Bundesliga clash against SC Freiburg awaits on Saturday. Find out what we think about this match in our Wolfsburg vs Freiburg betting tip.

If we take a closer look at the performances of both teams in recent weeks, we have to assume that the Wolves will be the underdogs in this match. After a furious start to the season, the Lower Saxons have lost the thread a little. On the last matchday, they lost 0:2 at Union Berlin. The upcoming opponents from Breisgau have 15 points in the table, which means that Freiburg have once again been able to surprise everyone so far.

Wolfsburg Form & Balance Check

To put it in a nutshell right at the start, the Wolves are currently a little bit out of sorts. In the Bundesliga, the Lower Saxons have slipped from the top of the table to 6th place. Coach Mark Van Bommel’s men have suffered three defeats in a row so far and if the negative trend is not stopped soon, the Dutchman’s personnel will have to be discussed. During the week, they suffered a 3-1 defeat at RB Salzburg in the Champions League. With two points after three games, reaching the last 16 is a distant prospect.

Too many construction sites?

The Wolves are currently struggling on all fronts. Compared to last season, the offensive is much more fragile and the players are no longer hitting the ball as they used to. The best example in this case is the built-in Torganrantie Wout Weghorst. The Dutchman only came off the bench in last matchday’s 0:2 defeat against Union Berlin. He will be missing in the upcoming games anyway, as he tested positive for the corona virus.

Wolfsburg facts & analysis
 – Three defeats in a row
 – Only in 6th place now
 – Last lost 0:2 against Union Berlin

Freiburg Form & Balance Check

Eight matchdays have now been played in the Bundesliga and once again Freiburg have managed to surprise everyone so far. Coach Christian Streich’s men have managed four wins and four draws in the first few matchdays, making it easy to say that the Sport-Club is the only club apart from 1. FC Nürnberg not to have lost a single game in German professional football. Last weekend, the new stadium was inaugurated with a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig.

Defensive is trump

If we take a closer look at Freiburg’s games so far, what stands out most is their well-functioning defence. The Breisgauers have only conceded six goals. This makes the Sport-Club the best back line in the league. Against Wolfsburg, who are currently very poor offensively, they could even keep a clean sheet again. SC’s goal for the season is, of course, first and foremost to stay in the league. If they continue as they have been doing so far, then this should be wrapped up quite quickly. Maybe they’ll even make it into Europe this year.

Freiburg facts & analysis
 – Still unbeaten
 – Best defence (6 goals conceded)
 – Currently in fourth place

Predicted line-up – last update on 21 October 2021

The Wolves will also have to do without striker Wout Weghorst in the upcoming match. The Dutchman is ill with COVID-19 and is therefore out. Nmecha will therefore once again play as the only striker in the 4-2-3-1. Lukebakio will get another chance after his glaring miss against Union. At Sportclub from Freiburg, there is only one change compared to the 1:1 against RB Leipzig. Kübler is fit again and he moves back to an established position as a right-back.
