West Ham United vs. Chelsea FC

This weekend, as on almost every Premier League matchday, we can look forward to a real top match. The current fourth of the table West Ham United welcomes the leaders Chelsea FC at the Olympic Stadium London. Kick-off is at 13:30.

The Hammers are playing a really strong season so far, but are currently in the first small phase of weakness. Against Chelsea, David Moyes’ team could remain winless for the fourth time in a row. In our West Ham vs. Chelsea betting tips, you can find out whether we think this will happen and what other predictions we would make for this match.

West Ham -Chelsea Tip

The teams are currently only three places apart in the table, but already nine points apart. The Blues are playing an almost flawless season and have only suffered one defeat in the first 14 matchdays. It is logical that a club like West Ham, even with the best start to a season in ages, cannot quite keep up. However, with a home win against Chelsea, the Hammers could catch up with the top three, who currently have 33, 32 and 31 points. Chelsea, meanwhile, could slip to third with a defeat.

West Ham Form & Balance Check

After a very strong start to the season and 23 points from their first eleven games, West Ham United have just entered their first mini-crisis of the 21/22 season. Four wins against Everton, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool were followed by a 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers before the Hammers also fell to a 2-1 defeat at star-studded Manchester City. Last Wednesday, Michail Antonio & and his colleagues were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton, seventh in the table.

Hammers concede late goal again

The early goal by Tomas Soucek (5th) was equalised by Neal Maupay in the 89th minute. It was the third time this season that West Ham dropped points because of a goal conceded after the 85th minute. Without these goals, the Hammers would already have five points more on their account and would be close on the heels of the league’s top trio. But they need a home win against Chelsea to stay in the top three. Statistically, the chances of that are not bad at all. Of the last seven home games against Chelsea, West Ham have won four, although it must be remembered that both teams have not yet reached the level of the current season.

West Ham facts & analysis

 – 24 points from 14 games
 – Last played 1:1 against Brighton
 – Winless in 3 games
 – Won 4 of last 7 home games against Chelsea

Chelsea form & balance check

Chelsea FC remain top of the Premier League table, but have lost four points to Manchester City within their last four games. While the Citizens have won all their games in this period, the Blues have only drawn twice in addition to two wins. First in the penultimate home game against Burnley (1-1), then also in the last home game against Manchester United (1-1). On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel’s team has won five matches in a row away from home.

Blues with relatively easy remaining schedule

If Chelsea are victorious at the Hammers, there is a good chance that the Blues will be able to extend their lead at the top of the table even further by the end of the year. The remaining opponents in December are Leeds, Everton, Wolverhampton, Aston Villa and Brighton, before the return match against Liverpool FC on 2 January to start the year. By then, the reigning Champions League winners want to have created a certain cushion. A first important step in this direction should be taken on Saturday at 13:30 at the London Olympic Stadium.

Chelsea Facts & Analysis
 – 33 points from 14 games
 – Last won 1:2 at Watford
 – Last 5 away games won
 – Last 2 duels with West Ham won

Predicted line-up – last update on 2 December 2021

With West Ham there should be no surprises in the starting eleven. The only one missing is Angelo Ogbonna, who tore his cruciate ligament at the beginning of November. In addition, the fitness of Aaron Cresswell is still questionable. Compared to the 1-1 draw against Brighton, the team could remain unchanged.

On the visitors’ side, the starting eleven is a little more difficult to predict. Thomas Tuchel often surprises with unexpected starting formations. Against Man United, he left not only Kai Havertz, but also Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic on the bench. Romelu Lukaku has been allowed to sniff a few minutes recently after overcoming injury and could be in the starting eleven for the first time against West Ham. N’Golo Kanté could also at least return to the squad after recovering from his injury. Mateo Kovacic is still a question mark. Ben Chilwell, on the other hand, will be out for a while with a partial cruciate ligament tear. Marcos Alonso will replace him for the time being. Reece James is also questionable.

West Ham -Chelsea direct comparison & stats

The overall direct comparison is very narrowly in favour of Chelsea FC with 42 to 38 wins and 21 draws. In recent years, the statistics are also relatively even. Of the last eight encounters, both teams won three each, two duels did not find a winner. Most recently, West Ham’s 3-2 home win was followed by a 3-0 home win for Chelsea FC, before the Blues won their most recent guest game at the Hammers 1-0. A year ago, Chelsea FC were in 8th position in the table with 22 points. Currently they are in position 1 (30).
 – Last season Chelsea FC won both matches against West Ham United (3-0 at home and 1-0 away).
 – A year ago West Ham United were on position 10 in the table with 21 points. Currently they are in position 4 (23).
