Union have had a disastrous matchday. They could have at least secured a relegation place against their direct rivals from Cologne, but things turned out very differently. In the early stages, the matchday went exactly according to the Berliners’ expectations. The visitors led 2:0 after just under 20 minutes and Cologne’s morale seemed to be down. The equalizer to make it 2:1 shortly before the break was unnecessary, but did little to change the momentum of the game in the second half.
Union once again proved that they were compact and stable defensively and did not allow Cologne any space. Until the final phase, when the Irons suddenly looked tired. In the 87th and 90th + 3rd minutes of the match, they actually conceded the goals to make it 2:3. This defeat could even lead to direct relegation next weekend.
The Union team’s recent results have made the situation even more critical. They have picked up just one point from their last five games and lost the rest of their matches. The Köpenickers currently have one win from eleven games. With this record, they are not only the weakest team in the Bundesliga in terms of form, but have also slipped from twelfth to 16th place in recent weeks and now fear for their survival in the Bundesliga. There have been two wins and two draws in the Bundesliga, while in the second division they picked up a win and a draw against Breisgau. The only home defeat they have ever suffered against SCF was in the first round of the 2004/05 DFB Cup, in which Union competed as a third-division team and Freiburg as a Bundesliga side.

In Christian Streich’s last home game for SC Freiburg for the time being, he and his team had to face newly promoted Heidenheim. The Breisgau side dominated from the start and were rewarded with a 1:0 lead in the 29th minute. Marco Grote will once again send his team out onto the pitch in the usual 3-4-2-1 formation, but there will be a few changes in terms of names. He will be without midfielder Khedira (yellow card suspension), who could be replaced by Tousart in the center. Gosens will probably replace Roussillon at full-back, with Haberer taking his place alongside Aaronson. Hollerbach is also an option for the attack.
In Christian Streich’s last match, the team will start in a 3-4-3. In terms of personnel, he will still be without right-back Sildilla (suspended), with Keitel continuing to replace him.
