Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea FC

Wednesday night sees the second leg of the League Cup semi-final and two of London’s top teams meet. Spurs welcome Chelsea and in the first leg the Blues were able to put themselves in a very good position. In the end, they won 2-0 and Tottenham will have to equalise that score in order to enter the League Cup final. Last weekend they were both active in the FA Cup and each managed to qualify for the 4th round.

While Chelsea had no problems against an underclass team, Tottenham had to tremble for a long time against a third division team and could only win in the end due to the substitutions of a Harry Kane and Lucas Moura. Against Chelsea on Wednesday, Antonio Conte will certainly field his best team to ensure they still progress against the Blues, who are short of substitutes. Find out whether we think they can do that in this Tottenham – Chelsea betting tip.

Tottenham Form & Balance Check

Spurs’ season matches the overall impression of the last few years. There is a lot of potential in the team, but they do not manage to show it consistently. Due to an enormous period of weakness this season, the newly hired coach was sacked after 10 matchdays and now the extremely successful Antonio Conte, who among other things was Italian champion with Inter Milan and also led Chelsea to the title in 2017, was brought in and is supposed to stabilise the Londoners with his playing philosophy and bring them back to success.

The results are right under Conte

Since the Italian has been on the sidelines, Spurs have not lost a single game and have more or less mastered all the compulsory tasks. As a result, the team has regained its position at the top of the table. Nevertheless, the performances are not always convincing and the team is still very much dependent on the individual quality of individual players, as seen recently in the cup. This season, reaching the Champions League would be a great success, but the competition is fierce and we are curious whether Antonio Conte can succeed in the long term at Tottenham.

Tottenham facts & analysis
 – The team is still unbeaten in the league under Conte.
 – They have won 5 of their last 6 home games
 – Top scorer in the league is Son with 8 goals

Chelsea form & balance check

After an incredible start to the season, the Blues have slackened off a bit in recent weeks. In the league they have only won one of their last 4 games and have failed to get beyond a draw on four occasions. On top of that, there was the public conflict with the star purchase of the summer, Romelu Lukaku, who had complained about the coach’s style of play in an interview. As a result, the Belgian was dropped from the squad for one game, but was allowed to play again in the cup at the weekend and scored a goal straight away.

Is the title already gone?

For a long time, Chelsea were in 1st place in the Premier League, but then, as mentioned, they have slackened and have now slipped to 3rd place. The gap to Manchester City is already 9 points and we can hardly imagine that the Citizens will give away this lead again. This leaves the Blues with “only” the cup competitions left and in the League Cup they are well on their way to the final. There, either Arsenal or Liverpool would be waiting. We are curious to see whether they can prevail on Wednesday.

Chelsea facts & analysis
 – Last game they won 5-1 against Chesterfield in the FA Cup.
 – Top scorer is Mason Mount with 7 goals.
 – So far this season they have won both competitive games against Tottenham

Predicted line-up – last update on 10 January 2022

Compared to the cup last weekend, both teams will probably rotate properly. For Spurs, Sanchez, Kane, Höjbjerg and Moura will return to the first eleven and Lloris will start in goal. Thomas Tuchel will choose a slightly more defensive variant and fill the flanks with defenders. In midfield, Jorginho will also return. The powerful Werner and Lukaku are likely to start again.
