VfB Stuttgart vs. Eintracht Frankfurt

The weekend is just around the corner and that means top sport in Europe’s top leagues. Of course, the ball is rolling again in the Bundesliga and at prime Bundesliga time on Saturday afternoon, at 15:30, VfB Stuttgart welcome Eintracht from Frankfurt to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The Swabians are still waiting for their first win of the season, but celebrated a respectable success last weekend with a 2:2 draw in Munich. VfB is nevertheless treading water, with five points after six games and no wins.

Frankfurt had a successful week on the international stage, winning the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. In the 1:0 win against Marseille, Eintracht were rewarded for a good defensive performance and showed a cool presence in front of goal. In the league, however, things are mixed. The SGE occupies a midfield position and actually needs to win on Saturday. We’ll tell you who we see ahead in this eye-to-eye clash in this Stuttgart – Frankfurt betting tip.

Stuttgart Form & Balance Check

This year has been anything but easy for Stuttgart. They managed the acclaimed class preservation in the last minute in the past season, but despite this success, the transfer summer and the start into the season so far did not really go well. The Swabians have only lost once, but the problem is that they haven’t won a game yet either. VfB have drawn five times so far, although last weekend’s point in Munich was a perceived victory. The team played a good game against Bayern, was gripping in the duels and never gave up. Despite this sense of achievement, the Cannstatt side must start scoring three times.

Giurassy works immediately

One player who caught the eye last weekend was new signing Serhou Giurassy. The Frenchman, who played for Cologne in the Bundesliga five years ago, arrived from Rennes in the summer. The 26-year-old radiated an enormous amount of goal threat and seems to be a suitable replacement for the departing Kalajdzic. He was a constant troublemaker and rewarded this performance with a strong penalty in the last minute. It is enormously important for VfB that they develop more goal threat, because so far their performances up front have not been consistently convincing. VfB have only scored six goals, which is the third-weakest figure in the league.

Stuttgart facts & analysis

– Stuttgart scored only two goals in their own stadium.
– Drawn three times in a row last time out
– The Swabians occupy 14th place in the table

Frankfurt form & balance check

You can’t really make heads or tails of Eintracht’s performances this season. After a false start and a defeat against Bayern at the beginning of the season, they did not lose any of the four following games, beating RB Leipzig 4:0, among others. Last weekend, they faced their fearful opponents from Wolfsburg, who had not yet won a match in the league. The performance against the Wolves was weak, and Eintracht was unable to exert its usual pressure, especially up front. But the 1-0 win in Marseille during the week quickly made them forget that defeat, as it was the first ever win in the Champions League for Frankfurt’s Eintracht.

The balance still needs to be found

Even though the performances going forward looked really good, the defence suffered a lot in the first weeks of the season. After four matchdays, Frankfurt had already conceded eleven goals and repeatedly allowed themselves to become unfocused in defence. This inconsistency was also noticeable in the Champions League.

Against Sporting, Eintracht conceded three goals and could not find an antidote against the counterattacks of the fast Portuguese. On Tuesday in Marseille, the SGE did not develop as much forward pressure as usual, but showed itself defensively stable and took the one chance in the first period. If they manage to find the middle ground of defensive stability and attacking vigour, then the team can achieve a lot again this year.

Frankfurt facts & analysis

– Still unbeaten away from home
– Kolo Muani is the top scorer with six direct goals.
– Frankfurt have always conceded one goal on away grounds in the Bundesliga

Predicted line-up – last update on 15 September 2022

The home side can probably rely on Vagnoman again, who has served his suspension and sat out the ankle problems. In his place, Silas moves into the forward line and forms a double front with Giurassy. Either Ahamada or Führich will start on eight. Luca Pfeiffer is still suspended. Visiting coach Oliver Glasner has no reason to rotate due to the upcoming international break, so it is quite possible that he will field the same eleven as in Marseille. Sebastian Rode may return from injury.

Stuttgart – Frankfurt direct comparison & Statistics

These two will meet for the 99th time in the Bundesliga on Saturday, and so far the direct comparison has easily gone to the Swabians. VfB have won 42 of those matches, while Frankfurt have won 34.

– In the last four duels, both have scored at least once.
– Stuttgart are winless in six meetings with Eintracht.
– Frankfurt won the last encounter 3:2
