Newcastle United – Manchester City
Our Newcastle – Man City betting tip is: Man City win & both score: 2.73 odds
- City are still unbeaten in the Premier League
- City have the best offense with 13 goals
- Newcastle have scored in every game so far
Manchester City travel to Newcastle for the opening game of the sixth matchday of the Premier League. The Citizens need to secure their fourth win in the last three years at St James’ Park before an easier October, when they will travel to Bratislava in the Champions League, play against Fulham, travel to Wolverhampton and then host Sparta Prague and Southampton.
However, Pep Guardiola and his team will make the trip without Rodri. The European champion, who was forced off injured against Arsenal, will be out for a very long time. They will need to prove that they can still dominate without their most important player.
The Magpies, for their part, are aware of the opportunity that presents itself to them. While their opponents played a game in the Carabao Cup against Watford just four days earlier, they will do everything they can to beat them in the league for the first time in five years. You can find out who will leave the pitch as the winner in our Newcastle – Man City betting tip.

Newcastle Form & record check
Although the Magpies suffered their first defeat of the season on matchday five, they appear to be starting with the same conditions as in 2023/2024. Last season, Newcastle had just six wins in 19 away games and finished 11th in the away table. If nothing changes soon, the Tyne and Wear club will suffer from the same away weakness. In three away games, the club drew with Bournemouth, won at Wolverhampton (currently bottom) and lost at Fulham.
Will the away weakness continue?
They were steamrolled by the Cottagers in the first half (two goals and four yellow cards), but after the break they got back into it thanks to Harvey Barnes, the strongest man of the season. The English winger, who scored his third goal in three games, got the game back on track. Unfortunately for the visitors, they couldn’t catch up and conceded the killer goal in injury time.
Champions visit!
Three weeks after their last home game, Eddie Howe and his players returned to St. James’ Park to host the English champions. The last time they played in front of their home crowd, they achieved their best result of the season, beating the in-form Spurs.
However, they will now host the Citizens, whom they have not beaten in the league since 2019 (eight defeats and two draws). They did manage to win at home in the Carabao Cup last year, but against a much-changed team.
It is noteworthy that in the last five years in the league, Newcastle have either been completely shut up against Manchester City or have been very efficient in attack, scoring two or even three goals. The aim, of course, will be to choose the second option against the Citizens, who have conceded five goals in four Premier League games.

Man City Form & Record Check
Just a few months ago, as they headed for their fourth consecutive English title, it would have been unthinkable for Manchester City to celebrate a draw at the Etihad like a victory. Nevertheless, that is exactly how it was last weekend.
Pep Guardiola and his players welcomed their main rivals of the last two seasons, Arsenal FC. In what was expected to be a game with a padlock, the hosts quickly took the lead when Erling Haaland broke the London hinge and beat David Raya. Unfortunately, Rodri fell to the ground after a harmless corner and held his knee.
Rodri injured!
Just a minute after his team’s most important player left the pitch, Pep Guardiola was forced to watch helplessly as the Londoners scored two goals, the first from a magnificent shot by Calafiori, the second from one of the corners that have become a hallmark of Arsenal. Nevertheless, the other turning point of the game took place just before half-time, when Leandro Trossard was sent off.
Manchester City spent the rest of the game attacking a compact London block. Despite 90% possession, the Citizens looked set to suffer their first Premier League home defeat in 22 months. However, after a last-ditch shot was blocked by everyone, John Stones managed to get his foot to it and send the Etihad Stadium into raptures.
Hard-fought draw!
With this draw against their main title rivals, City managed to stay top of the league. Rodri has a ligament injury. The Spanish midfielder will need surgery and, at best, will not return until the end of the season.
This is a major loss for the Sky Blues. Last season, all three of their league defeats came while he was out (against Wolverhampton, Arsenal and Aston Villa). Nevertheless, he was also absent for the first three matchdays of this 2024-2025 season, which did not prevent Manchester City from taking the lead in the Premier League.
Mateo Kovacic will be the natural replacement for Rodri, but the Croatian midfielder will have to have a stellar season for his team to continue their dominance in England. Finally, Kevin De Bruyne is also unlikely to be fit in time for this game, having already missed the clash against Arsenal.
