Napoli Form & Balance Check

The Neapolitans played away against direct table rivals AC Florence last weekend. They got off to a good start after taking the lead through a corner in the eighth minute. However, the game then turned and SSC allowed themselves to be pushed further into their own half. The result was a double strike from the home side, who turned the game in their favor with two goals in the 40th and 42nd minute.

Napoli did not appear particularly shocked, however, as they came out of the break with an attacking presence and used a direct free-kick to equalize the match. Napoli then had another great chance, but otherwise it remained quiet in front of both penalty areas. The 2:2 draw means that Francesco Calzona’s team will now need some help if they want to play internationally next year.

Napoli are currently having a very poor season. Last year’s Italian champions started the season with a lot of ambition and now it is unlikely that they will even get a place in the international competition. Since the second matchday, they have been constantly dropping down the table, which is also due to their recent results. They have picked up just three points from their last five games, with three draws and two defeats, and are 17th in the form table. This desolate season’s performance is reflected in tenth place in the overall table

Home advantage?

Home advantage is not proving particularly useful for SSC this season. They have won six, drawn six and lost six of their 18 home games. With a win, they could equalize the number of away victories. This poor home performance is also reflected in the goal difference. In their own stadium it is 27:27, while in away stadiums they have a very good difference of 31:21. These results put them in 13th place in the home table

Lecce Form & Balance Sheet Check

Lecce faced Europa League finalists Atalanta Bergamo in front of their home crowd last matchday. US hardly created any chances of their own in the first half and were even lucky not to go behind in the early stages. Lecce’s goalkeeper also had a strong day, so the game went into the break goalless.

The Giallorossi came out of the break well and had a huge opportunity to take the lead, but it was Bergamo who decided the game within two minutes in the 48th and 53rd minute. Atalanta then managed the game well and Lecce were unable to make the game dangerous again in their final offensive.

Despite their defeat last weekend, the results of their direct rivals ensured that Lecce were able to secure their place in the league. They won one of their last five games, drew two and were beaten twice. This leaves them in 14th place and, with 37 points, four points clear of the relegation zone, meaning they can no longer be caught.

Away weakness

Unlike their upcoming opponents from Napoli, Luca Gotti’s team are anything but comfortable in foreign stadiums. In their 18 away games so far, they have only won two, drawn seven and lost nine times. As a result, they are 16th in the away table, just three points off a theoretical relegation spot

Lecce facts & analysis
  • Away table 16th place
  • Lost two games in a row
  • Won twice away from home

For Napoli, it’s still a matter of making it into the European competition, so they will start with their full squad. Francesco Calzona is unlikely to make any changes to the classic 4-3-3. Lindstrom and Raspadori are options in attack, while Osimhen’s involvement is still a question mark.

In his 4-4-2, Luca Gotti will basically rely on the same eleven that was used last week. However, it is possible that he will use other players due to the insignificance of this clash

Napoli – Lecce head-to-head & stats

This clash has only taken place 25 times in the history of Italian soccer. Napoli have won twelve of these games, while Lecce have only won five. The two teams have drawn a total of eight times. The Lecce players will not have fond memories of the first leg. The result at that time was a 0:4 from US’ point of view
