AC Milan vs. SSC Napoli

In the 7th matchday of the Serie A, a real top match is on the agenda on Saturday evening. AC Milan, who are currently third in the table, will welcome SSC Napoli, who are level on points, at the San Siro. Kick-off for the match is at 20:45.

The last time that the home team prevailed in a league encounter between these two teams was quite a while ago. The last such success was celebrated by SSC Napoli in August 2018 (3-2). Since then, the away team has prevailed four times in this pairing, with three games ending in a draw. We can be curious to see whether this series will continue on Saturday.

It is not unlikely, given the way the season has gone so far. The visitors are currently leading the Serie A table due to their better goal difference, but could slip down to sixth place if they lose. Our Milan vs Napoli betting tip will tell you whether this is the case or not.

Milan Form & Balance Check

In terms of points, the hosts have made exactly the same start to the season as their upcoming opponents from Napoli. The Rossoneri have won their three home games against Udinese (4:2), Bologna (2:0) and Inter Milan (3:2), but only one away game. After a 1-1 draw at Atalanta and a 0-0 draw at Sassuolo, the Rossoneri won 2-1 at Sampdoria Genoa last weekend.

Won everything at home so far

After Rafael Leao was sent off, Milan initially conceded a 1-1 equaliser when shorthanded, but regained the lead 2-1 through a penalty. Genoa were unable to find an answer and thus gave the visitors their first away win of the new season. The Champions League has been similar to the league so far.

The Italian champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Austrian side RB Salzburg in their opening game. In contrast, Milan deservedly won their second group match against Dinamo Zagreb 3:1 in front of their home crowd. The Rossoneri will now look to remain unbeaten in their ninth competitive match of the season against the league leaders from Napoli.

Milan facts & analysis

– 14 points from 6 games.
– Last 2:1 win at Sampdoria Genoa
– Lost last two home games against Napoli 0-1 each

Napoli Form & Balance Check

After a strong third place finish in pre-season, SSC Napoli entered the new season with big ambitions and so far the team can definitely live up to expectations. The two clear opening victories at Hellas Verona (5:2) and at home against Monza (4:0) were followed by two draws at AC Florence (0:0) and against Lecce (1:1) before Napoli won each of their last two games again. The Azzurris defeated Lazio Roma 2-1 away from home, and Luciano Spalletti’s side narrowly edged out Spezia Calcio 1-0 last weekend thanks to Giacomo Raspadori’s late goal (89th minute).

Strong start also in the top flight

The first two appearances in the top flight did not exactly curb the euphoria. For the opener, Napoli hosted last year’s Champions League finalists Liverpool FC at the Diego Maradona Stadium. The Italians were the better team from the start and were already comfortably ahead 3-0 at the break with goals from Zielinski (5th), Anguissa (31st) and Simeone (44th). Both teams scored once more in the second half. SSC also won the second group match at Glasgow Rangers by a clear 3-0 margin. However, Napoli only scored the three goals in overtime after Glasgow’s James Sands had seen a yellow card in the 55th minute.

Napoli facts & analysis

– 14 points from 6 games.
– Last win 1:0 against Spezia
– Won 6 out of 8 competitive matches (2 draws)

Predicted line-up – last update on 16 September 2022

For Milan, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Ante Rebic, Alessandro Florenzi and Ante Rebic are all out through injury. Rafael Leao is suspended. Compared to the CL success against Zagreb, we therefore expect Junior Messias on the right wing.

Diego Demme and Victor Osimhen are out for the visitors. However, this is not news, so no changes are expected in the starting eleven.
