FSV Mainz 05 – Borussia Mönchengladbach

The Bundesliga continues to progress. The 24th matchday is already on the program this weekend and there are some groundbreaking games. In the Saturday conference, FSV Mainz will face Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others. Even though the teams are separated by ten points, they are currently pursuing the same goal. Find out who will win this clash and who is worth betting on in our Mainz – Gladbach betting tip.

Mainz recently suffered another defeat after coach Bo Henriksen’s debut win on the penultimate matchday. In the 2-1 defeat in Leverkusen, Mainz held out for a long time but ultimately lost out, partly due to a massive goalkeeping error. The fight for survival continues and with every matchday without points, the chances of staying in the league diminish.

Borussia managed to break free on the last matchday. They won 5:2 against their direct rivals from Bochum and climbed slightly up the table. After weeks of crisis, the mood was also tense on the Lower Rhine, but the foals have gained a small cushion on the relegation ranks thanks to their latest success.

Mainz Form & Balance Check

After the 1:0 win against Augsburg, hope grew in Mainz. However, the team was brought back down to earth in Leverkusen last weekend and remains at the bottom of the table. Their record from the last six games is one win, one draw and four defeats.

This still leaves the 05ers with just 15 points and in second-last place in the table. FC Köln, in the relegation place, are two points ahead of Mainz and ten points away from the safety zone. The game against Gladbach is therefore extremely important, not least because they travel to Bayern the following week, where points are not expected

Ngankam suspended for two matches

As if the offensive personnel situation wasn’t already tense enough, attacker Jessic Ngankam has now been suspended for two matches by the DFB. The 23-year-old was shown a straight red less than a quarter of an hour after coming on as a substitute in the match against Leverkusen.

After a fierce duel with Bayer’s Granit Xhaka, he was sent to the showers early. The club and player have already agreed to the penalty. The squad is thinning out in the striker position, as Ludovic Ajorque also had to miss the last match due to illness and is not yet 100% fit

Mainz facts & analysis
  • 17th place in the table
  • Last game lost
  • Ten points behind a non-relegation place

Gladbach Form & Balance Check

After a run of five games without a win, Gladbach rocketed out of their crisis last weekend. They collected five points from their last six games and climbed up three places thanks to their latest success. Just how tight the bottom half of the table is is shown by the fact that Borussia are currently in twelfth place on 25 points, level on points with Wolfsburg, Union Berlin and Bochum in the places behind them.

They are eight points clear of the relegation places. With a three-pointer against Mainz, the Foals could make up further places in the table and leave the relegation zone further behind them, but a defeat would see them slip back to the bottom of the table

Joker ignite

Both Rocco Reitz and Franck Honorat came off the bench in the 5:2 win against Bochum and both made their mark on the game. Reitz scored just five minutes after coming on to make it 3-0, while Honorat set up teammate Jordan Siebatcheu’s goal shortly afterwards before crowning his performance with a goal of his own in stoppage time.

The two jokers scored three points between them. Now coach Gerardo Seoane is hoping that the productivity from the bench will increase again in the final stretch of the season, as the personnel is certainly available

Gladbach facts & analysis
  • Table position twelve
  • Last game won
  • Only one win from the last six games

Mainzer play with a 3-4-2-1 formation. In the back three, we expect Josuha Guilavogui to return to the starting eleven. There is still a question mark behind Brajan Gruda. The offense is somewhat shaken due to Jonathan Burkardt’s injury and Ngankam’s suspension. In midfield, Tom Krauß would still be an option for the first eleven.

Gladbach will line up in a 4-3-3 system. Coach Seoane is hoping for the return of Ko Itakura and Nico Elvedi in defense. After a strong performance, we expect Honorat to return to the starting line-up. In midfield, the coach is spoiled for choice between Florian Neuhaus and Reitz. Robin Hack is also an option in midfield
