Liverpool FC vs. Norwich City

The fans of the round leather truly have no reason to complain at the moment. Week after week there are great games on the schedule and also during the week there is currently a lot of football from the respective cup competitions. This is also the case next Wednesday, when the round of 16 in the FA Cup is on the agenda. The oldest cup competition in the world opens its doors again and the supporters of the remaining clubs can look forward to the encounter between Liverpool FC and Norwich City, among others. What we think about this unequal duel, you can read in our Liverpool – Norwich tip.

If we take a closer look at the two form curves of the respective teams, it should quickly become clear who is the favourite in this round of 16. LFC have won their last six games in the league and, thanks to the EFL Cup title against Chelsea, Liverpool are going into the game with a broad chest. The mood at the bottom of the Premier League is completely different. Norwich will go into the game with plenty of respect and everything will have to go right for the surprise to succeed.

Liverpool Form & Balance Check

Jürgen Klopp has been Liverpool FC coach for six and a half years now and last Sunday the Reds won their first national cup under his leadership. In a thrilling final against the Blues from London, the penalty shootout had to decide the champion in the EFL Cup in the end. The 2020 champions prevailed 11:10 and on Wednesday evening they will continue in the next cup competition. Against the men from Norwich only a progress counts and we can well imagine that Klopp will send his second guard on the field.

Reds in fine form

Liverpool FC’s current form is more than respectable. The men from the Merseyside have not lost for 13 games and there is little doubt that the series against the Premier League bottom team from Norwich will continue. The big goal, of course, is the title in England’s top division and what seemed all but impossible just a few months ago now looks very possible again. The gap to Manchester City is now only three points and in its current state the race for the championship is more exciting than ever.

Liverpool facts & analysis

 – Most recently won the EFL Cup.
 – Won 3-1 against Norwich in the league just a few days ago
 – Unbeaten for 13 games

Norwich Form & Balance Check

It looks very much as if Norwich City are going the same way as they did two years ago. The Canaries were promoted to the Premier League and after only one year they went back down to the bottom of the Championship. At present Norwich are back at the bottom of the table with 17 points and there are many indications that they will be relegated again. The last three games have all been lost and the gap to the saving shore is already five points.

Hardly any hope of progressing

David against Goliath is the name of the game. Even before the game, it is clear that the Reds will be at least one size too big for Norwich. A team that has scored a meagre 15 goals in the Premier League after 26 matchdays and has already conceded 55 goals must almost hope for a miracle against Liverpool. A few days ago there was already the match in the Premier League and the performance up to the 64th minute has to be continued. Norwich led 1-0 until the Reds were able to turn the game in their favour within a very short space of time.

Norwich facts & analysis

 – Norwich have the weakest offence in the league (15 own goals).
 – Already 55 goals conceded
 – Currently they are 20th in the table with 17 points

Predicted line-up – last update on 28 Feb 2022

Liverpool are likely to field a “B eleven” once again and Irishman Kelleher could well be in the box again. In front of him there is the central defence of van Dijk and Konate. Elliot is likely to play in midfield again alongside Fabinho and Henderson. Thiago is likely to miss out through injury. The upcoming opponents from Norwich will send their best men on the field and with a 4-3-3 the surprise should succeed.

Liverpool – Norwich direct comparison & Statistics
