Bayer Leverkusen – Union Berlin
This weekend, the Bundesliga once again has three games on Sunday due to international competitions. At 3:30 p.m., two teams that were active in Europe during the week will face each other. While the hosts from Leverkusen won against Qarabağ Ağdam in the Europa League in Azerbaijan, Union secured a draw against Napoli in the Champions League.
In the league, however, this clash is not a top match. Although the Werkself have had an excellent start to the season and lead the table in the top flight, the visitors from Köpenick have by no means had a good start to the season.
Union have lost their last eight Bundesliga games and plummeted to 16th place. FCU also had no chance against Frankfurt the previous week, losing 3-0, while Werkself won again the previous week and have therefore been without a point in the Bundesliga for almost two months. However, Bayer 04 had to summon up all their strength against Hoffenheim and ultimately prevailed 3:2. You can find out whether we can expect a similarly spectacular game this Sunday in our Leverkusen – Union betting tip:

Leverkusen Form & Balance Check
The Werkself are currently going from win to win. Bayer 04 also won the difficult away game in the Europa League in Azerbaijan against Qarabağ Ağdam 1:0 thanks to a late goal from Victor Boniface. Leverkusen are therefore top of Group H without losing a point. The Rhinelanders are also on top of the Bundesliga.
However, the Werkself have not always been convincing in the last three games in the league. The playful fireworks of the first few weeks have only been seen sporadically of late. Bayer 04 have won their last three league games by just one goal. However, Leverkusen are still top of the table with 28 points after ten games
Robert Andrich has again been called up for the national team by national coach Julian Nagelsmann. However, the 29-year-old has only played 145 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. The midfielder’s form is by no means poor. However, Bayer 04 can rely on an absolutely outstanding midfield duo.
Exequiel Palacios and Granit Xhaka are the absolute mainstays in the center under coach Xabi Alonso and deliver more than stable performances week in, week out. However, the Argentinian world champion was recently absent from the Werkself’s trip to Azerbaijan with an injury. However, Palacios is likely to be back in the line-up against the Irons
Leverkusen facts & analysis
- Leaders of the Bundesliga table
- Won 3:2 against Hoffenheim in the previous week
- Won 1:0 against Qarabağ Ağdam in the Europa League
Union Form & Balance Check
Union’s current negative streak seems to continue unabated. After experiencing an unprecedented rise in recent seasons, the East Berliners have found themselves on a steady downward trend this season. Last weekend’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt ended in a painful 3-0 defeat at home.
In the Bundesliga, the Irons have lost their last eight games in a row and have not even scored a single goal in the last three games. In the Champions League, however, FCU managed a small success on Wednesday. The Köpenickers fought out a 1-1 draw against reigning Serie A champions SSC Napoli to secure their first point in the top flight in the club’s history
Fischer’s chair wobbles
Urs Fischer took over as coach at the Wuhle in the summer of 2018. At that time, FCU were still in Bundesliga 2. Prior to that, the 57-year-old had only worked in his home country and had even won the championship twice and the cup once with FC Basel. With FCU, the coach then experienced an incredible rise that had rarely been seen before.
However, the Swiss is coming under increasing pressure in Köpenick. Particularly in the last three Bundesliga appearances against Stuttgart, Bremen and Frankfurt, his team appeared unimaginative and anemic. Several media outlets are already reporting that the clash with Leverkusen on Sunday could be Urs Fischer’s last game on the Union touchline. After all, there will be an international break afterwards, which would lend itself to a change of coach
Union facts & analysis
- In 16th place in the Bundesliga table
- 13 competitive matches in a row without a win
- Lost 0:3 against Frankfurt in the previous week
Predicted line-up – last update on November 11, 2023
Since the Werkself rotated during the week in the Europa League, we expect the usual personnel and formation from the previous Bundesliga games on Sunday. We are not predicting any changes to the starting eleven compared to the win against Hoffenheim.
Union looked much more stable against Napoli. There, Paul Jaeckel started from the beginning. We therefore also expect the 25-year-old to be in the starting line-up on Sunday. Rani Kedira is still missing for FCU with a suspension
