Bayer Leverkusen vs. Eintracht Frankfurt

The 32nd matchday of the Bundesliga will be completed on Monday by the two Europa League semi-finalists. While RB Leipzig has to travel to Gladbach (click here for RB Leipzig vs Gladbach tip), Eintracht Frankfurt will take on the Werkself in Leverkusen. Kick-off at the BayArena is at 20:30.

Both Leverkusen and Frankfurt still have a lot at stake in the remaining games of the season, albeit in different competitions. In third place, Bayer are three points clear of fifth place in the league and on course for the Champions League. Frankfurt, on the other hand, are nine points behind in seventh place and only have a mathematical chance of qualifying for Europe via the Bundesliga. But a Europa League victory would also give the Adler a place in the top flight. They won their semi-final first leg 2-1 at West Ham United on Thursday. In Leverkusen, however, they enter as big underdogs. Find out our predictions for this match in the following Leverkusen vs Frankfurt tip

Leverkusen vs Frankfurt Info

Leverkusen Form & Balance Check

Ten points were taken by the Werkself in the past five games. As their direct rivals for the top flight failed to score last weekend, Bayer jumped back to third place in the table with a 4-1 win at Greuther Fürth. Both RB Leipzig (1-2 defeat against Union) and SC Freiburg (3-3 against Gladbach) dropped points. Leverkusen lost 1-0 at home to Leipzig the previous week. The Werkself will meet Freiburg on the last matchday in a possible final match for a place in the Champions League.

Schick nets for the first time since mid-February

Just in time for the most important phase of the season, Leverkusen’s star striker Patrik Schick is back. Last weekend, the 26-year-old scored his first goal in more than two months. After missing four games with a torn muscle fibre, the Czech remained without a goal of his own in his last three appearances before the Fürth game. With a total of 21 league goals, however, he is still the second best scorer in the Bundesliga behind Robert Lewandowski.

Leverkusen facts & analysis

 – Won 3 of last 5 league matches (1 draw & 1 defeat).
 – Lost 2 of last 3 home matches
 – Conceded maximum 1 goal in 8 consecutive matches

Frankfurt form & balance check

With a 2-1 win, Eintracht Frankfurt won the first leg of their Europa League semi-final at West Ham United on Thursday, putting them in a good position for the second leg next week. The Londoners were the superior team throughout the match, but failed to score three times on the aluminium. The hard-earned away victory for the Hessians was by no means undeserved. The Eagles thus remained unbeaten in the Europa League in their eleventh match.

Winless in the league since mid-March

Frankfurt are currently less successful in the Bundesliga than in Europe. Since mid-March, or five games now, the Hessians have been waiting for a win in the championship. After two defeats in a row, they at least managed a point again last weekend with a 2:2 draw against Hoffenheim. With only three wins and 13 points from 14 games, Eintracht are only 14th in the second round table. Only Fürth, Stuttgart, Hertha and Bielefeld have collected fewer points in the new year. With Frankfurt currently nine points behind seventh place and twelve points clear of the relegation zone, there is nothing left to play for in this Bundesliga season, so their full focus is on the Europa League.

Frankfurt facts & analysis

 – 5 league games in a row not won (3 draws & 2 defeats).
 – conceded only 3 goals in last 5 league matches
 – conceded exactly 2 goals in 3 consecutive league matches

Predicted line-up – last update on 1 May 2022

Leverkusen’s Kerem Demirbay suffered a capsule injury in his toe in the Fürth game and is questionable for the match against Frankfurt. After the 28-year-old had to miss a few days of training during the week, he is unlikely to be a candidate for the starting eleven. Charles Aranguiz will probably start in his place. Otherwise, we expect Leverkusen to play an unchanged 4-2-2-2 system.

Eintracht’s focus is already fully on the semi-final second leg in the Europa League on Monday. Accordingly, several regular players are likely to be spared against Leverkusen. Those who will still play from the start will probably be substituted early in the game. Frankfurt will have to do without striker Rafael Borré on Monday. The Colombian is missing due to a yellow suspension. Martin Hinteregger will be absent due to illness.
