Lazio Roma Form & Balance Check

Lazio faced newly-crowned champions Inter Milan away from home last weekend. The Romans got off to a fast start and took a 1-0 lead after just four minutes. However, the goal was disallowed for offside. Lazio did not let this affect them, however, and continued to play well. After just over half an hour, they were rewarded with a 1-0 lead thanks to Kamada’s long-range shot. Inter did not come up with much after the break and for a long time it looked like an away win for Lazio before Milan nodded home a set-piece in the 87th minute to make it 1-1.

Lazio are in very good form in this final phase of the season. They have won three and drawn two of their last five matches and are now unbeaten in six games. This puts them in third place in the form table. The results mean they are seventh in the overall table and if they pick up at least one point in the upcoming clash, they would qualify for the Europa League

Defensive strength

The capital club’s back line has been very solid and compact this season. They have only conceded 38 goals in their 37 games so far, making them the fifth-strongest defense in the entire league. Their biggest defeats were two 3-1 defeats against Atalanta Bergamo and Juventus Turin, otherwise they have not conceded more than two goals in any game

Lazio Roma facts & analysis
  • Seventh in the table
  • Unbeaten for six games
  • Last game a draw

Sassuolo Form & Balance Check

Sassuolo Calcio were already certain of relegation before the final matchday, but they still wanted to get a halfway conciliatory farewell in their last home game. The first half against Cagliari Calcio was devoid of any really compelling chances for either side, with the visitors having more of the play if anything. The Neroverdi remained harmless after the break and conceded a deserved goal in the 71st minute. Cagliari then scored in stoppage time to make it 2-0 and, to make matters worse, Sassuolo’s Henrique was then shown the yellow card. It was the 22nd defeat of the current season.

The Neroverdi have not been able to achieve their goal of relegation this season. They have only won seven times this season and have been beaten 22 times. Of their last five matches, they have won one of those seven and conceded four defeats. In the overall standings, they have no chance of staying in Serie A and can now only try to enjoy this last first-class game for the time being

Away weakness

The relegated team has had enormous problems scoring at away stadiums this season. While they feel quite comfortable at home, it is often not enough on other pitches. They have only won two and drawn three of their 18 away games and lost all of the remaining 13. With nine points and a desolate goal difference of 19:40, they are deservedly in second-last place in the away table

Sassuolo facts & analysis
  • First seven wins of the season
  • Penultimate in the table
  • One win from nine games

Lazio will start in a 3-4-2-1 as they did last weekend. However, Igor Tudor will be without left-back Casale (yellow card suspension). He will be replaced by Hysaj. Guendouzi and Luis Alberto are options for the center, otherwise the starting eleven is unlikely to change.

In their usual 3-5-2, Davide Ballardini will have to do without his midfield engine Matheus Henrice (yellow-red suspension), with Obiang or Boloca moving into the center for him. It’s possible that the coach will rotate a little, given that it’s their last game in Serie A.

Lazio Roma – Sassuolo head-to-head & stats

These two teams have only met 21 times. The numbers reflect Lazio’s dominance. The Romans have won 13 of these encounters, while Sassuolo have only won five times. The two sides only drew three times. The first leg in Sassuolo ended in a deserved 2-0 away win for Lazio Roma. The last time the Neroverdi won against Roma was five games ago.
