Lazio Roma vs. SSC Napoli

The 27th matchday of the highest Italian division, the Serie A, is just around the corner. This Sunday we can expect a match between Lazio Roma and SSC Napoli. The Laziali are currently in sixth place and would now be qualified for the Conference League. The team of coach Maurizio Sarri is as usual offensively strong and can be dangerous for the Neapolitans.

Napoli, unlike Lazio Roma, are fighting for the championship. The southern Italians are dueling with the two Milanese clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan, for the Scudetto. Coach Luciano Spalletti’s men are anything but easy to beat and have conceded only four defeats in the current league season. Find out more about this Italian clash in our Lazio vs Napoli tip

Lazio Form & Balance Check

The Laziali are currently in solid form. They did not manage more than a meagre 1-1 draw against Udinese Calcio in their last league match, but have not lost for five league games. The Italian capitals played out a 2-2 draw with FC Porto in the Europa League last Thursday. The Romans scored the equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time through Roman-born Cataldi. Lazio are in solid form given their recent two draws.

Strong offensive

The Romans possess the second best offence in the league after current league runners-up Inter Milan. They scored a staggering 53 goals in their first 26 league games. Immobile, of course, has played a major part in the Biancocelesti’s offensive success this season. The attacker, born near Naples, scored an incredible 19 goals in Serie A. Every 96 minutes he is good for a goal. We think he can make the difference against Napoli.

Lazio facts & analysis

 – Immobile is their top scorer with 19 goals in 21 games.
 – Lazio drew 1-1 against Udinese in their last league game
 – The Romans currently occupy sixth place in the table

Napoli Form & Balance Check

Napoli fluffed as did Lazio Roma in their last league match. The Partenopei equalised late on in their away game at Cagliari Calcio for a final score of 1-1. The Neapolitans were not convincing over 90 minutes in Sardinia and showed that they are quite vulnerable. Nevertheless, they deliver very good games against the top teams like Milan or even against Inter, which is why we think they will show a first-class game against Lazio as well. They won against AC Milan at the San Siro and drew against the reigning champions Inter Milan.

The best defence in the league has been weakening recently

Koulibaly and Co. have defended at the very highest level so far this season. Nevertheless, a few mistakes have crept into the Napoli defence recently, which have already cost them a point or two. The southern Italians have conceded against both Cagliari Calcio and Inter Milan. We think this negative trend will continue against Lazio Roma as well.

Napoli facts & analysis

 – They are currently in third place in the table.
 – Napoli played their last match against Cagliari 1:1
 – The southern Italians possess the best defence in the league

Predicted line-up – last update on 25 February 2022

We believe that the Laziali will again start in their usual 4-3-3 formation. However, it is likely that Cataldi will again play from the start in place of Leiva in central midfield, as he usually gets the nod ahead of the Brazilian in the championship. We expect the southern Italians to play in the usual 4-2-3-1 formation. Compared to the Europa League match against Barcelona, Ospina will certainly return in place of Meret.

Lazio vs Napoli direct comparison & stats

Of the past 20 head-to-head clashes between Lazio Roma and SSC Napoli, the Romans have won just four, two games ended in a draw and the southern Italians have decided a total of 14 games in their favour. We think that this statistic will also prove true on Sunday and Napoli will walk off the field as winners.

 – Napoli have won their last two matches by at least a three-goal margin.
 – The first leg ended with a 4-0 win for Napoli
 – Napoli have scored a combined nine goals in their last two head-to-head clashes against Lazio
