Inter Milan – Juventus Turin

It’s not just in the three German professional leagues that the ball will be rolling again next weekend. In Serie A, too, another matchday is on the schedule and this one has it all. The battle for the championship has been decided for weeks and the title is hardly to be taken away from SSC Napoli. Behind them, however, the battle for the Champions League places continues. The duel between Inter Milan and Juventus Turin will take place on Sunday at 20:45. Find out who will come out on top in the duel between the two giants of Italian football in our Inter – Juventus tip.

As already mentioned, it will only be an exhibition game for Napoli until they are handed their first Scudetto in over 30 years. Behind Napoli, the Nerazzurri from Milan have established themselves in second place. The quarter-finalists in the top flight are currently on 50 points. If we still look at the upcoming opponents from Turin, then the Old Lady is stalking the Europa League places again. Juve currently have 38 points on their account and the gap to Bergamo is only four points.

Inter Form & Balance Check

Inter Milan’s season has been like a rollercoaster ride. Coach Simone Inzaghi’s men remain in second place, but last weekend in particular again revealed many question marks among Inter fans. They were beaten 1:2 by Spezia. In the last four games, victory and defeat always alternated. If Inter stays true to this series, there should be a win against Juventus on Sunday. Milan has long since written off the championship, which means no title for the second year in a row. The top goal now should be to secure the ticket for the Champions League.

Opponent in the quarter-finals is set

While there is unlikely to be a title in the domestic Serie A this season, Milan still have every chance of claiming their second CL title since 2010. On Friday, the quarter-finals of the Champions League were drawn and with Benfica, the Milanese have got a difficult, but quite feasible task. No matter how this season turns out, there will be upheaval at Inter one way or another. Lukaku has not been much help so far and new blood is needed, especially in attack. Besides Lautaro Martinez, another goal scorer is urgently needed.

Inter facts & analysis

 – Currently in 2nd place.
 – Last lost 1:2 against Spezia
 – Only 2 wins from last 5 games

Juventus form & balance check

The Old Lady from Turin just won’t let it get them down. Despite the 15-point deduction for falsifying their record, the record champions have not yet given up their hopes of international football in the coming season. There have been a convincing four victories in the last five games. Among them was last weekend, when Juventus beat Sampdoria Genoa 4-2.

However, Juve were beaten in their last away game. In the top match at Roma they lost 0:1. With regard to the clash in Milan, the Turin side cannot exactly be said to be strong away from home. In twelve games away from home, they have only managed six wins.

Juve dances on two weddings

Alongside strong recent weeks in Serie A, Juventus can continue to have legitimate hopes of the Europa League title. There, the round of 16 against SC Freiburg was on the agenda in the last few days. They won 1-0 against Freiburg in front of their own fans and in the return match last Thursday Juve won 2-0 with goals from Vlahovic and Chiesa.

Sporting Lisbon now await in the quarter-finals. Coach Allegri will be taking this competition very seriously because if the Turin side were to win the Europa League, they would secure a ticket to next year’s Champions League.

Juventus facts & analysis

 – 4 wins from last 5 matches.
 – Currently in 7th place
 – Last win 4:2 against Genoa

Predicted line-up – last updated 18 March 2023

The men from the fashion capital Milan will go into Sunday’s match in their usual 3-5-2. Coach Inzaghi will rely on the same eleven that earned a 0-0 draw against Porto during the week. Dzeko and Martinez will again start as a double. Loan player Lukaku will again only take a seat on the bench.

As for the opponents from Torino, there are two changes compared to the 2-0 against Freiburg. Di Maria moves into attack alongside Vlahovic and compatriot Pardes will also start in central midfield again as Paul Pogba continues to miss out.
