TSG Hoffenheim – FSV Mainz

On Sunday, the Bundesliga once again has two games in store for fans. The final game of matchday 12 will take place in Sinsheim. TSG Hoffenheim will host FSV Mainz 05 there, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways after the draw before the international break. Find out who will secure the three points at the end of the weekend in the Kraichgau in our Hoffenheim – Mainz betting tip.

Hoffenheim are particularly keen to get back to winning ways in front of their home crowd. TSG have already suffered four defeats at the PreZero Arena and have only picked up three points this season. However, Hoffenheim are still in sixth place in the table thanks to their strong away record.

Mainz 05, on the other hand, find themselves ten places lower down the table. However, the “Nullfünfer” are still unbeaten under interim coach Jan Siewert. Before the international break, FSV were held to a very uneventful 0-0 draw at Darmstadt

Hoffenheim Form & Balance Check

Last year, TSG Hoffenheim narrowly escaped relegation to Bundesliga 2. In the new season, however, the Kraichgauers are fighting for a European place. After eleven games, coach Materazzo’s team find themselves in 6th place and just four points behind the Champions League places.

There is a striking difference between the Kraichgauers’ home and away form. While TSG are still without defeat away from home, Hoffenheim have only picked up three points at home. Before the international break, TSG recently drew 1:1 away from home in Augsburg

Bülter likes Mainz

Marius Bülter has an unblemished record in the Bundesliga against the upcoming opponents from Mainz, with three wins and one draw. With Schalke, Bülter even managed to score a goal against Mainz on matchday 31 of the last Bundesliga season, in the twelfth minute of stoppage time. This was the latest Bundesliga goal since data recording began in 1992.

And the 30-year-old is also familiar with scoring late winners at his new employer in Kraichgau. The attacker scored his only Bundesliga goal for TSG to date in a narrow 3:2 win at Bremen’s Weser Stadium. Bülter scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time.

Hoffenheim facts & analysis
  • Last three home defeats in a row
  • In sixth place in the Bundesliga
  • Played 1:1 in Augsburg before the international break

Mainz Form & Balance Check

Under the leadership of coach Bo Svensson, Mainz have established themselves in the top half of the Bundesliga table in recent years. Despite this, there was no clear sign of any significant development in terms of play from the team. This season, however, this stagnation seemed to take its revenge.

Mainz 05 went nine games without a win in the league. After a 3-0 defeat in the 2nd round of the DFB Cup against Hertha BSC, the Dane finally resigned from his post as FSV coach. His successor on an interim basis is Jan Siewert, who previously coached the second team of the Nullfünfer. The 41-year-old has picked up a strong four points from his first two games so far

Siewert at the helm

Jan Siewert is working as interim coach at Mainz 05 for the second time. The 41-year-old already took over FSV for one match in the 2020/21 season. This season, the coach was previously on the sidelines for Mainz’s second team. Otherwise, Siewert was also mostly active in the youth sector.

He also coached Borussia Dortmund’s second team, putting him in the same league as well-known names such as Enrico Maaßen, Daniel Farke, David Wagner and Hannes Wolf. As a coach in the men’s game, Siewert’s involvement with Huddersfield stands out in particular, although he was unable to prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League

Mainz facts & analysis
  • In 16th place in the Bundesliga table
  • Played 0-0 against Darmstadt before the international break
  • Still without an away win

Predicted line-up – last update on November 24, 2023

We expect Hoffenheim to adopt a 3-5-2 formation again, with Mergim Berisha likely to be unavailable for the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate ligament. Pavel Kaderabek and Dennis Geiger will also be missing for TSG.

We also expect Mainz to field a back three. The “Nullfünfer” also have some injury worries and will also be without the suspended Sepp van den Berg and Dominik Kohr in defense. Captain Silvan Widmer, on the other hand, is finally fit again but will not be in the starting eleven
