Hoffenheim beat SV Darmstadt 6-0 on the last matchday and have therefore earned their place in the season finale against Bayern. For Bayern, on the other hand, the only thing left to do is to make up the result and finish runners-up. Hoffenheim Form & Balance Check
Despite mixed performances in recent weeks, TSG have remained stubbornly in the chasing pack for the European qualification places. The Kraichgauers finally managed to overtake Freiburg in seventh place and are now in pole position for the Conference League thanks to their recent resounding victory over the Lilies. They are one point ahead of Freiburg.
A win is therefore needed to avoid having to rely on the support of others. In addition, a win could even mean sixth place and thus the Europa League if Frankfurt lose. However, Hoffenheim would have to make up for their inferior goal difference of three goals
Double pack for the European Championship
Shortly before the national coach’s official statement on which German players will be taking part in the European Championship at home this summer, Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier has once again collected arguments. His brace last weekend should not go unnoticed by Julian Nagelsmann and with a total of 15 goals for the season, the 21-year-old is not only his team’s top scorer, but also the second-best German goalscorer in the Bundesliga behind Deniz Undav.
He has therefore certainly earned his place at the European Championships and the fact that Beier, who trained in Hoffenheim’s youth academy, has been selected for the European Championships could give him further confidence for the season finale against Bayern.
Hoffenheim facts & analysis
- Seventh place in the table
- Last game won
- Scored twelve goals in the last four games
Bayern Form & Balance Check
Bayern were successful in their last home game of the season. The team secured a 2-0 win against Wolfsburg and were thus at least able to celebrate a conciliatory farewell with the fans in this title-less season, as the mood at Säbener Straße seemed to have hit rock bottom after the bitter elimination in the Champions League.
In addition to the win against Wolfsburg, the team’s record from the last four competitive matches is two defeats and a draw. With 72 points, the lead over third-placed VfB Stuttgart is only two points and a defeat could even see the runners-up spot slip out of Munich’s hands
Turnaround in the search for a coach?
According to the latest media reports, the departure of coach Thomas Tuchel could yet take a spectacular turn. A number of leading players, including captain Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, are said to have pleaded with Bayern bosses to let the coach stay. Other key players such as Harry Kane, Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala are also said to have spoken out in favor of continuing to work together.
This puts the Bayern bosses in a difficult situation, as such backing for a sacked coach could also make things difficult for the future new coach. Whether and how these rumors will affect Bayern’s performance on the final matchday remains to be seen, as the minimum goal of finishing runners-up must be achieved in any case
Bayern facts & analysis
- second place in the table
- Last game won
- Only one win from the last four games
Hoffenheim’s offensive line-up paid off last weekend. In a 3-5-2 system, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo deployed four nominal strikers in Marius Bülter, Andrej Kramarić, Beier and Ihlas Bebou. The defensive line of Ozan Kabak, Florian Grillitsch and Kevin Akpoguma also remains unchanged. Wout Weghorst and Umut Tohumcu are available from the bench.
Bayern still want to secure the runners-up spot and will therefore not rotate completely. The 4-3-3 formation will feature the set back four. In midfield, we expect Konrad Laimer or Alexander Pavlovic alongside Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka. Harry Kane was slightly injured during the week. Should he not play, the young Lovro Zvonarek could also hope to get some minutes again
