FC Heidenheim – RB Leipzig

After the European Cup got heated during the week, the Bundesliga naturally continues this weekend. With five matchdays to go, there are still some decisions to be made and the teams are still fighting for their respective goals for the season. On Saturday afternoon, the Red Bulls travel from Leipzig to Heidenheim.

Heidenheim can take a relaxed approach to the end of the season. Thanks to a more than solid season, the promoted team can be almost certain that they have nothing to do with relegation. Last weekend, they shared the points with VfL Bochum, although the team only conceded an equalizer shortly before the end.

Leipzig, meanwhile, are fighting for a place in next year’s top flight. It remains a tense duel with BVB, in which any mistake could have fatal consequences. Coach Marco Rose’s team did their homework last weekend and won 3:0 against Wolfsburg.

Find out in our Heidenheim – Leipzig betting tip whether Heidenheim can secure a home win or whether Leipzig will come out on top.

Heidenheim Form & Balance Check

Heidenheim are currently benefiting from their good results in the first half of the season. They have won just one of their last eight games, albeit against record champions Munich. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team collected seven points from these weeks and remain in mid-table. With a total of 34 points, they are in 10th place in the table and have an eight-point cushion on the relegation places.

This should actually ensure that they stay in the league. Theoretically, the team from eastern Württemberg can even still aim to qualify for Europe, as the possible 7th qualifying place is only five points ahead of Heidenheim

Kleindienst: The scare of the big boys

The focus of the Heidenheim offense is Tim Kleindienst. The 28-year-old striker is his team’s top scorer and has scored two braces in the last three weeks. It is interesting to note that these were not scored against the league’s weaker defenses, but against Bayern and Stuttgart.

He scored against both in the first and second leg and also scored against the newly crowned champions from Leverkusen. So he particularly likes to score against the top teams in the league and Leipzig should be warned. Kleindienst has scored a total of eleven goals this season and also contributed three assists

Heidenheim facts & analysis
  • Tenth place in the table
  • Last game draw
  • Not lost in three games

Leipzig Form & Balance Check

Leipzig seem to be entering a strong phase at the right time of the season. The recent win against Wolfsburg was their 5th success from the last six games and Leipzig were able to move past Dortmund into fourth place on the penultimate matchday.

It promises to be an extremely exciting duel between the two, as they are level on 56 points and no more slip-ups can be allowed. Leipzig are desperate to take a sense of achievement from Heidenheim with them to carry the momentum into the direct duel with Borussia on the next matchday

Rose in the stands

The Leipzig team had to make do without the instructions of their head coach in Heidenheim. Coach Rose saw his 4th yellow card in the game against Wolfsburg after getting very upset about a yellow card for his protégé Xavi Simons and complaining loudly to the referee. According to the rules, this means a one-match ban for the coach.

He will be replaced by the two assistant coaches Marco Kurth and Alexander Zickler. Both are already familiar with the role of interim coach. Of course, Rose continued to oversee the preparation during the week, but the absence of the coach on the touchline could still be a disadvantage for the Red Bulls

Leipzig facts & analysis
  • Fourth place in the table
  • Won last two games
  • 14 goals from the last five games

Heidenheim will line up in a classic 4-3-3 and we don’t expect many changes compared to the game against Bochum. Kevin Sessa seems to be establishing himself in the playmaker position. Kleindienst, Jan-Niklas Beste and Eren Dinkçi are set in the offense. Adrian Beck and Marvin Pieringer are options from the bench.

RB will play in a 4-4-2 system. In the back line, David Raum returns to the starting eleven after serving his yellow card suspension. We expect no changes to the midfield and forward line compared to the win against Wolfsburg. Should Rose nevertheless want to bring new impetus, Kevin Kampl, Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald are available as options

Heidenheim – Leipzig head-to-head & statistics

There have been seven matches in the history between FC Heidenheim and RB Leipzig. The first leg of this season, which went 2-1 to the Saxons, was the first meeting in the German top flight. Prior to that, there were four games in the Bundesliga 2 and two matches in the Bundesliga 3. In the first meeting between the two, in the 2013/2014 season, Leipzig won 2-0. At the end of the season, the two were promoted to League Two together. Heidenheim have only won once in their history, but that victory was nine years ago.
