Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. RB Leipzig

The only team in the Bundesliga that is still dancing on three tides is RB Leipzig. On Thursday, the Bullen won their Europa League semi-final first leg 1-0 against Glasgow Rangers, and on Monday they are back in action at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Kick-off at Borussia-Park is at 20:30.

From that point of view, the Foals are no longer prancing at any wedding this season. They did not qualify for Europe, in the DFB Cup they were eliminated in the round of 16 with 0:3 against Hannover 96, and in the Bundesliga there is nothing left to play for for Gladbach. With 38 points, Borussia is already eleven points behind seventh place with three matchdays to go. At the same time, however, Gladbach are ten points clear of the relegation zone. Find out whether they will be able to upset the fourth-placed Leipzig side and what other predictions we have for this match in our Gladbach vs Leipzig betting tips.

Gladbach Form & Balance Check

With 38 points, Gladbach occupy a dismal eleventh place in the Bundesliga. As already mentioned, they have nothing to do with relegation or the fight for Europe this season and, after their eighth place from the previous season, are only among the league mediocrities this season as well.

Last weekend, Borussia squandered a 2-0 lead in Freiburg. After the Breisgau side had put the score at 3:2 in the meantime, Fohlen captain Lars Stindl (90’+3) saved a point for his team in injury time. A week earlier, Gladbach had lost the Rhine derby against 1. FC Köln 3-1 in front of their home crowd.

Plea vs Nkunku

With Alassane Plea and Christopher Nkunku, two of the hottest players in the Bundesliga meet this weekend. Both Frenchmen lead their team not only in goals, but also in assists. Plea collected a total of ten goal assists in the past eleven league games, while Nkunku has 14 scorer points in the same period. In the last two direct duels, Nkunku had the edge in each case. He scored in Leipzig’s 3:2 win in the second leg of last season and in their 4:1 win in the first leg of this season.

Gladbach facts & analysis

 – 2 league games in a row not won.
 – 2 league games in a row exactly 3 goals conceded
 – Scored 8 home goals in a row

Leipzig form & balance check

Angeliño’s late goal (85′) gave Leipzig a 1-0 win in their Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday night. Against very defensive Glasgow Rangers, however, the Bullen struggled for a long time despite 70 percent ball possession and missed their few good scoring chances at the beginning.

In the Bundesliga, RB lost again last weekend after 15 unbeaten games. Union Berlin took revenge for the 2-1 cup defeat and won the second game in Leipzig within a few days with 2-1. After the Saxons were 1-0 in front for a long time, the Berliners took three points from Leipzig with a late double strike by Sven Michel (86′) and Kevin Behrens (89′).

Between Bundesliga, Europa League and Cup

With less than four weeks to go before the end of the season, Leipzig are still playing in three competitions. With the 1-0 win against Glasgow, the Saxons took a big step towards the Europa League final. They are already certain to reach the final in the DFB Cup. There they will meet SC Freiburg on 21 May. But also in the league Leipzig has to keep the tension high until the last matchday. The Bullen are currently in fourth place. However, the lead over fifth place (SC Freiburg) is only two points.

While the other German EL semi-finalist, Eintracht Frankfurt, can rest on Monday in the parallel match against Bayer Leverkusen (click here for Leverkusen – Frankfurt tip), Leipzig must manage the balancing act between league, Europa League and cup in the coming games.

Leipzig facts & analysis

 – last game lost with 1:2 against Union Berlin.
 – previously unbeaten in 15 competitive games in a row
 – won 8 away games in a row

Predicted line-up – last update on 1 May 2022

National player Matthias Ginter has cured his ankle problems and is expected to return to the starting eleven against RB Leipzig. The 28-year-old returned to team training for the Foals on Thursday. Marcus Thuram, on the other hand, is missing again. The Frenchman already missed the last two games with muscular problems and is still only in individual training.

As already mentioned, Leipzig will have to manage the balancing act between the Bundesliga and the Europa League on Monday. On the one hand, some Bulls will get a rest after the Glasgow game, but at the same time they have to win against Borussia in the fight for the Champions League. In Gladbach we expect Willi Orban, Mohamed Simakan and Kevin Kampl, who were still yellow suspended against Glasgow, back in the starting eleven. Offensive players Andre Silva, Dani Olmo and Dominik Szoboszlai, on the other hand, are likely to be on the bench for the time being.

Gladbach – Leipzig direct comparison & Statistics

The Bullen and the Foals have met eleven times since Leipzig’s promotion to the Bundesliga. The overall balance is clearly in Leipzig’s favour. RB won seven games and lost only one. Three other encounters ended in a draw. And the balance of power was also clear in the first half of the season. Leipzig beat Borussia from Mönchengladbach 4:1.

 – RB won the last two games against Gladbach
 – RB won 4 out of 5 away games in Gladbach
 – Gladbach won their last home match against RB with 1:0
 – 5 goals have been scored in each of the last two direct duels
