Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. TSG Hoffenheim

33 matchdays have already been played in the Bundesliga and the absolute showdown is coming up next weekend. The 34th and thus all-decisive matchday is on the schedule and we are very sure that we can expect some excitement and drama. In a multitude of duels, important points are still at stake. All matches will kick off at the same time at 15:30. This also applies to the match between the Foals from Gladbach and TSG from Hoffenheim. Both teams have not quite lived up to their own expectations this season. In our Gladbach – Hoffenheim tip, we’ll find out who we think will be able to bring the season to a conciliatory close.

One matchday before the end of the season, the table looks as follows. The Foals from Borussia Park have had a very disappointing season. Adi Hütter’s team is currently only in tenth place, and the international places have long been out of reach. The situation is similar for TSG Hoffenheim, who once again failed to reach the Conference League or even the Europa League due to a poor final spurt. 46 points currently mean only eighth place.

Gladbach Form & Balance Check

Fohlen fans will be glad to see this so difficult season finally come to an end. Nothing has worked out for Borussia the way it should have. The change of coach from Marco Rose to Adi Hütter still seems to lack the necessary efficiency after 33 match days. The goal of the season – to reach the international stage – was more than clearly missed. They are a full twelve points behind 1. FC Union Berlin and in view of the rather expensive squad, Borussia must be considered to have had a very disappointing season.

New upheaval imminent

At the beginning of the year, Gladbach had to accept the retirement of Max Eberl, who is taking a break for health reasons. In the coming summer, there will also be one or two changes in terms of personnel. For example, top performer Matthias Ginter will not extend his contract and move back to SC Freiburg. Breel Embolo is being linked with Olympique Lyon and Jonas Hofmann is also flirting with a move. Coach Adi Hütter will be facing very exciting weeks after the game against Hoffenheim.

Gladbach facts & analysis

 – Only 1 defeat from the last 5 games.
 – Last played 1:1 against Frankfurt
 – Ranked 10th with 42 points

Hoffenheim form & balance check

Similarly to their upcoming opponents from Gladbach, the season also went very turbulent for TSG from Hoffenheim. The start was completely in the sand, then it looked for a long time as if Hoffenheim would storm towards Europe, before everything collapsed again. If we look at the last few weeks alone, the Kraichgauers simply don’t deserve to play internationally next year. Sebastian Hoeneß’s men haven’t won in eight games, and even on the last matchday there was nothing to be gained in the 4-2 defeat to Leverkusen.

Defence is the Achilles’ heel

As in recent years, TSG’s strengths and weaknesses have become quite clear. The offence is more than respectable with a solid 57 goals. Bebou, Kramaric and also Baumgartner have done a very good job this season. The problem is rather the defence. 55 goals are clearly too many and it looks like the defence is already on summer holiday. The TSG conceded four goals against SC Freiburg and Leverkusen.

Hoffenheim facts & analysis

 – Haven’t won in 8 games.
 – Lost 2 league games in a row
 – David Raum with 13 assists the best preparer

Predicted line-up – last update on 12 May 2022

Gladbach coach Adi Hütter will want to give his own fans a win in the last home game. However, he will have to do without centre-backs Elvedi (red ban) and Beyer (thigh injury). Ginter will again take over the right part of the three-man defence in his last game. In attack, we expect the trio of Hofmann, Plea/Stindl and Embolo to play.

The upcoming opponents from Hoffenheim always rely on a 3-5-2. In addition to the suspended Dabbur, Nordveit, Grillitsch, Hübner, Richards, John and Geiger are out due to injury. Baumgartner will play as a ten, with Rutter and Kramaric presumably in front of him. Should Rutter not be fully fit, Bruun-Larsen would be available as a substitute.
