Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. TSG Hoffenheim

The first matchday of the new season in the Bundesliga is on the schedule and fans can look forward to thrilling games in the Beletage of German football again after a break of more than two months. After Friday’s opening match between Frankfurt and the champions from Munich, there is the match between Gladbach and TSG from Hoffenheim, among others, on Saturday from 3:30 pm. The Foals have completely reorganised and we can be very curious to see how Daniel Farke will play his first game in the Bundesliga. What we expect in the upcoming match, you can read in our Gladbach – Hoffenheim tip.

If we dare to take a look at the two teams before the start of the new season, then we can expect completely different things from the two teams. Gladbach want to improve to the top half of the table under their new coach and perhaps knock on the door of the international places. Hoffenheim call the goal by its name, for the Kraichgauer it should go to Europe again and with the current squad that should be quite possible.

Gladbach Form & Balance Check

New season, new luck? That’s what fans of Borussia from Gladbach will be hoping for. After last season went anything but according to plan and coach Adi Hütter subsequently had to vacate his seat, everything is supposed to be better under Daniel Farke. The German coach led Norwich City to the Premier League twice and anyone who can prove his qualities in the world’s best league will probably also be successful in the Bundesliga. Gladbach had a successful dress rehearsal for the opening match against Hoffenheim. In the cup, for example, there was a commanding 9:1 victory over Oberachern.

In midfield, spoilt for choice

Farke has a good squad and a real luxury problem in midfield. In preparation, world champion Christoph Kramer attracted attention, and he was also one of the best in the cup. In the Bundesliga, he will probably be in the starting eleven again, as two regulars, Stindl and Friedrich, are currently absent due to injury. Manu Koné will probably only be a serious option again in a few weeks. Newcomer Itakura will help out in central defence for the time being, but in principle he will also want to play on the six. If all players are fit, Kramer, Koné, Itakura and Neuhaus will be four strong defensive midfielders at their disposal.

Gladbach facts & analysis

– New coach with Daniel Farke
– Last win 9:1 in the cup
– Oversupply in midfield

Hoffenheim form & balance check

The TSG from Hoffenheim has similar to the upcoming opponent from Gladbach the same end, a bottom line but disappointing season. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß had to vacate his position as TSG coach after missing out on international business and an old acquaintance was hired as the new coach. Andre Breitenreiter, who coached FC Zurich in recent years and led them to the title last year, is now expected to get 1899 back on track. In the cup, there was at least a successful start, even if there was more trepidation than expected in the 2-0 draw against Rödinghausen.

The departure of Raum weighs heavily

It came as it had to come. David Raum was no longer available for TSG Hoffenheim and the shooting star of the last season moved to the Red Bulls in Leipzig last week for just under 25 million. With the departure of Raum, Hoffenheim not only loses its left-back, but also its best preparer. Last season, the German international had 13 assists and three goals. We can be very curious to see how and whether TSG will step up again in this position.

Hoffenheim facts & analysis

– Lost the best provider of assists with Raum.
– Won 2:0 n.V. in the cup against Rödinghausen
– Finished last season in 9th place

Predicted line-up – last update on 4 August 2022

New Gladbach coach Daniel Farke will initially send Gladbach out onto the pitch in a 4-2-3-1. Marvin Friedrich (muscle fibre tear) and Lars Stindl (fascia injury thigh) are missing through injury, so the starting eleven will have to be shuffled around a bit. Itakura moves into central defence for Friedrich, Kramer takes over in midfield. Hofmann replaces Stindl in attacking midfield, Herrmann takes over on the right wing.

The upcoming opponents from Hoffenheim will again rely on a 3-1-4-2, with Rutter and Kramaric forming the forward line. Newcomer Kabak could be in the starting eleven. Skov will play on the left wing for the departed Raum.
