SC Freiburg vs. Bayern Munich

The annoying international break for the majority of football fans is over and this weekend the Bundesliga is finally back on the agenda. As part of the 28th matchday, we can look forward to two real top games. Three hours before the clash between Dortmund and Leipzig (Dortmund vs Leipzig betting tip), fifth-placed SC Freiburg will host leaders FC Bayern München. Kick-off is at 15:30 in the Europapark Stadium.

Normally, the roles are clearly distributed in this clash. In the current phase, however, the Breisgau side will certainly fancy their chances of keeping at least one point at home against the record champions. Christian Streich’s team already narrowly missed out on a point in the first leg. In the end, Bayern won 2-1 and inflicted their first defeat of the season on Sport-Club on matchday 11. Until today, there have only been five more defeats.

Whether we expect such a close game again on Saturday and what else we think about this match, you can read now in our Freiburg vs Bayern tip

Freiburg – Bayern info:

 – Date & Time: 02.04.2022, 15:30 Uhr
 – Venue: Europapark-Stadion (Freiburg)
 – Competition: Bundesliga, 28th matchday
 – TV broadcast: Sky Sport Bundesliga

Freiburg Form & Balance Check

With a goalless draw at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, SC Freiburg may have dropped two important points in the fight for international business on the last matchday before the international break, but at least they maintained their streak of six Bundesliga games in a row without defeat. No Bundesliga team is currently unbeaten for longer. Thus, the Breisgau side will go into the clash with Bayern with more or less the same preconceptions as in the first half of the season. At the time, Christian Streich’s team was the only one in the league still unbeaten after the first ten games.

Breisgau on their way to the top flight?

The top match in the Allianz Arena was nevertheless lost 1:2. The Sport-Club also failed to score in the following two games and for a short time it looked as if the high flight would be followed by a quick crash. However, this scenario failed to materialise. Since then, Freiburg have regained their composure and have lost just three more games to date.

Today’s 45 points after 27 matchdays are Freiburg’s best haul in the age of the three-point rule. Most recently, a 1-1 draw in Leipzig was followed by a 3-2 home win over the Wolves before SC couldn’t get past a goalless 0-0 draw in Fürth. After 14 out of a possible 18 points from the last six home games, the aim on Saturday is now to remain unbeaten against FC Bayern in their seventh home game in a row.

Freiburg facts & analysis

 – 45 points from 27 games
 – Last played 0:0 in Fürth
 – Unbeaten for 6 games (no Bundesliga team longer)
 – Last 14 out of 18 points at home

Bayern form & balance check

After two draws against Bayer Leverkusen (1-1) and at TSG Hoffenheim (1-1), Bayern bounced back impressively with a 4-0 home win over Union Berlin. It was only the fourth time this season that the Eisernen had conceded more than two goals in a match – in both duels with BVB and FC Bayern. With the score already 4:0 after 47 minutes, the Eisern can be glad to have avoided an even higher defeat in the end.

Lewandowski with the next record?

With 81 goals, Bayern now have more on their account than any other team after 27 matchdays of a Bundesliga season. A major part of this record is, of course, played by goal ace Robert Lewandowski, who has scored at least 30 goals in a Bundesliga season for the fifth time. The record set by Gerd Müller was thus broken. If he scores again in Freiburg, he would set another record. It would be his 18th away goal this season – no one has managed that before him.

Maybe Bayern can announce another piece of good news on Saturday. Leon Goretzka was back in the squad for the first time since Matchday 14 against Union Berlin and could now collect his first minutes back from injury against Freiburg. For Alphonso Davies, too, an end to his period of suffering is in sight. He already completed full team training on Tuesday and could also be in the squad against Freiburg. The two key players could therefore be back on the pitch in time for the most important phase of the season.

Bayern facts & analysis

 – 63 points from 27 games
 – Last win 4:0 against Union Berlin
 – 81 goals after 27 games – Bundesliga record!
 – None of the last 7 duels with Freiburg without conceding a goal

Predicted line-up – last update on 31 March 2022

We expect SC Freiburg to play in a 3-4-2-1 system. However, it could also be a 4-4-2. In this case, Roland Sallai would probably move into the starting eleven as a right winger, with Manuel Gulde making way for a centre-back and Lucas Höler acting as the second striker. The Breisgau side will have to do without Yannik Keitel (broken toe) and Kevin Schade (abdominal muscle strain).

There are almost no question marks at FC Bayern. Only in defensive midfield does Nagelsmann have three options in Jamal Musiala, Corentin Tolisso and possibly Leon Goretzka for the position next to Joshua Kimmich. We believe Musiala will be allowed to start again after his strong performance against the Netherlands. After all, he only played 70 of the 90 minutes there too.

Freiburg – Bayern direct comparison & statistics

The direct comparison is of course clearly in favour of FC Bayern, who have won 31 of the 44 encounters. SC Freiburg have only been victorious four times in this duel. Nine encounters have not found a winner. In recent years, however, the Breisgauers have never made it easy for the record champions. In the past season, Bayern won 2:2 at home, the return match in Freiburg ended in a 2:2 draw. The first leg of the current season was won narrowly by the Munich side with a 2-1 score.

 – The most common result between SC Freiburg and Bayern Munich is 0-2. 8 matches ended like this.
 – Did you know that SC Freiburg score 26% of their goals between the 0-15 minute? This is the highest value in the league.
 – SC Freiburg has not lost any of its last 6 home matches.
 – Bayern Munich have scored in each of their 13 away matches in the Bundesliga this season.
 – Vincenzo Grifo has the most assists on goal for SC Freiburg with 6. For Bayern Munich, Thomas Müller (17) is in the lead.
