Chelsea FC vs. Manchester City
This Saturday it comes to the absolute top match of the matchday and possibly also of the season in the English Premier League. At 1:30pm, the Blues welcome reigning champions Manchester City to Stamford Bridge. It is a rematch of last season’s Champions League final, which Chelsea narrowly won 1-0. Currently, both teams are in top form again and especially the hosts have started the season really strong and have picked up 13 points from the first 5 match days. Find out who we think will win this top match in this Chelsea – Manchester City tip.
If it were up to Pep Guardiola, the Skyblues’ start might have been a disaster. They “only” have 10 points after 5 matchdays, but City have often stumbled in recent years and dominated everything in the end. Both teams are currently on the same level and above all Chelsea can convince with an outstanding defence so far. Since the departure of Agüero at City, a classic nine is missing and we are curious how they solve this new situation. We believe that it will be an extremely high-class and even game in which the form of the day will decide.

Chelsea Form & Balance Check
Since the takeover, things have been going steadily uphill for the Blues. They have made an outstanding start to the season and have dominated Tottenham so much recently that Chelsea are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Almost more impressive, however, is the defence, which has only allowed one goal so far and has already managed to play to nil on four occasions. Recently, luck has also been with the Londoners, as they beat Aston Villa on penalties in the League Cup during the week. The only goal scorer in the regular course of play was the German Timo Werner. Now, however, the champions await the Blues this weekend and it will be even more challenging to win this clash.
Can Chelsea keep up this form?
It should be clear to all Chelsea fans that there are bound to be some unsuccessful periods this season. Nevertheless, the team is extremely strong on the road and has strengthened incredibly with Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has already shown in the first few games how good he is and what an asset he can be. 3 goals after 4 games is an excellent rate. If they just keep going reasonably the way they started, Thomas Tuchel’s team is an absolute title contender.

Man City form & balance check
Despite winning the league title last season, they were dealt a bitter blow by losing the Champions League final. They lost 1-0 against Chelsea and have never been so close to winning the trophy. Saturday is the reunion and we can well imagine that the Skyblues will be extra motivated. They had a proper rehearsal in the League Cup during the week when they sent underclass side Wycomber home 6-1. Against the Blues, Pep Guardiola will surely bring his best players and they will try to avenge at least a little bit for last year’s defeat in the final.
Does the Citizens’ title defence succeed?
After City won the championship in 3 of the past 4 years, the team might be a bit tired in terms of motivation. However, every player always wants to win everything and we can’t imagine them slacking off. The start of the season was not perfect, but the Skyblues have also only conceded one goal. However, the opening defeat to Spurs was bitter and the dropped points last weekend against Saints was also infuriating. A win on Saturday could see them draw level with Chelsea in the table.
Man City facts & analysis
– City already have 10 different goalscorers this season.
– They are 5th in the table with a goal difference of 11-1 (10 points)
– Manchester City have not lost any of their last 6 competitive matches
– Did you know that Manchester City score 27% of their goals between the 0-15 minute
Predicted line-up – last update on 23 September 2021
For the home side, the three-man backline has proven to be a very good recipe for success recently and we are pretty sure that Thomas Tuchel will again rely on this formation. The question is who he will leave out in midfield, as Kanté seems to be fit again. Otherwise, we don’t expect any personnel changes compared to the victory over Spurs. The Citizens are a different story. Defensively, there is no reason to change anything, but we are pretty sure that de Bruyne will return to midfield. Ferran Torres is also likely to get a rest in the centre of attack. Jesus moves into the starting eleven in his place.
