Werder Bremen – Borussia Mönchengladbach

Our Bremen – Gladbach betting tip is: 2nd half Gladbach more than 0.5 goals – 1.62 odds

  • Gladbach scores an average of 1.7 goals per match
  • Five goals in the 2nd half in the last two away games
  • Bremen have conceded at least one goal in the 2nd half in five of their last six games

The Bundesliga is in its final stages, with just three matchdays left to play. While the championship has already been decided, the relegation battle remains exciting until the very end. Among others, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach will face each other in the Saturday conference.

For Bremen, this clash is perhaps their last chance to keep their hopes of qualifying for Europe alive. They are still within striking distance of seventh place, which may still guarantee participation in the European Cup. However, Werder need a home win against Borussia to do so.

For the Foals, the aim is to consolidate their position in the lower midfield and not have to tremble until the last matchday. The relegation places are still dangerously close and Gladbach’s form curve is making the pessimists among the fans sweat.

Bremen Form & Balance Check

After a long negative streak of seven games in a row without a win, Bremen have bounced back in recent weeks and picked up six points from their last two games. As a result, the European Cup places remain within sight and the fans can continue to hope.

With 37 points in the account, the gap to sixth place is eight points, but seventh place could also mean the Conference League if Leverkusen are successful in the DFB Cup final. They are just three points off seventh place. However, the competition is fierce, with four other teams – Freiburg, Augsburg, Hoffenheim and Heidenheim – vying for that spot.

Ducksch back

After a drought of nine competitive matches without scoring, Marvin Ducksch has also woken up in the last two games. He first ended his team’s negative streak with a brace against VfB Stuttgart and also scored against FC Augsburg last weekend. Over the course of the season, the 30-year-old has now scored twelve goals.

The striker has also contributed six assists, making him his team’s top scorer and eighth in the league’s top scorers list. Gladbach should be warned, as Ducksch already scored in the first leg at Borussia Park to secure a point for Bremen against the foals

  • Won last two games
  • Five goals from the last two games

Gladbach Form & Balance Check

Gladbach are still not through and remain dangerously close to the relegation places. In addition to last weekend’s draw against Union Berlin, they have lost two of their last three games. This leaves Borussia in 13th place overall and, with 32 points, only four points ahead of 16th place.

However, the first direct relegation place is probably a safe distance away with nine points. Gladbach are therefore under pressure and need a liberating blow to finally keep the relegation spot at bay

Staffing situation remains tense

Even though Franck Honorat, Manu Koné and Jordan Siebatcheu were able to celebrate their comeback in the final phase against Berlin last weekend, the team was far from complete this training week. With Max Wöber, Christoph Kramer, Grant-Leon Ranos , Shio Fukunda, Florian Neuhaus and Tony Jantschke, several players missed the team training sessions.

Wöber will certainly be missing in Bremen and there is still a big question mark over Neuhaus. On a positive note, however, coach Gerardo Seoane will be able to call on his regular keeper Jonas Omlin again after he was forced to miss two games recently

Gladbach facts & analysis
  • 13th place in the table
  • last game drawn
  • Only one win from the last nine competitive matches

We expect Bremen to play with a 3-4-3 formation. The back three remains unchanged compared to the game against Augsburg. In midfield, Jens Stage could return to the squad and the starting eleven after serving his suspension. The attack of Ducksch, Romano Schmid and Nick Woltemade has worked well recently. Leonardo Bittencourt will only come off the bench for the time being.

Gladbach also operate in a 3-4-3 system. In defense, coach Seoane could once again put his trust in 18-year-old Fabio Chiarodia, as he did against Union. Julian Weigl slips into the center for Rocco Reitz. Honorat is back in the starting line-up in attack. Options from the bench are Tomáš Čvančara and Nathan N’Goumou.

Bremen – Gladbach head-to-head & stats

Werder and Gladbach are two traditional clubs. It will be the 114th clash between the two, with 107 Bundesliga games and six cup matches between them. The historical direct overall comparison is quite even. Bremen have won 41 games, while Borussia have 45 victories. The balance is also even in recent history. There have been two recent draws and one win for each team before that. The very first time the two met was in 1965, when Bremen won 2:0.
