FC Barcelona vs. Granada CF

After the Champions League opener against Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona now have to play in the Spanish La Liga again. The disappointing match against the German record champions must be put out of the players’ minds as quickly as possible, and Granada FC should serve as a rebuilding opponent. The match at Camp Nou rounds off Matchday 5 on Monday at 9 pm. Whether we believe that the football giants from Catalonia can redeem themselves after the defeat against Bayern, you can find out in our Barcelona vs Granada tip.

Barca are currently in seventh place in La Liga with seven points from three games. Even if this does not meet the club’s astronomical expectations in the long term, it is still too early in the season for a real assessment. Moreover, Barcelona are only in seventh place partly because the last game against Sevilla was cancelled and Barca therefore have one game less on their account.

Granada is at the other end of the table. The team from Andalusia is still without a win after four games and has only two points on its account. This means that Granada are only in 17th place and a relegation battle seems to be looming.

Barcelona form & balance check

Barca have made a good start to the league. In addition to two home wins against Real Sociedad and Getafe, there was also a draw at Athletic Bilbao. In the post-Messi era, the heavily indebted club is undergoing massive upheaval. But the first results read quite well. Despite all the changes in the team, the ambition is of course still the championship every year, there is not much room for manoeuvre and time for adjustment in Barcelona.

Offeness against Bayern

In the first duel of the season with a real top-class team, the Catalans’ weaknesses became quite clear. Barca didn’t stand a chance against FC Bayern in front of their home crowd at the Camp Nou and in the end more than deserved to lose 3-0. A goal from Müller and Lewandowski’s brace made things clear. It was also obvious that Barcelona no longer had the quality to consistently play a possession game against teams with a strong pressing game like Bayern. Against defensively oriented Andalusians from Granada, however, the game could look very different again.

Barcelona facts & analysis
 – Barca are still unbeaten in the league after three games.
 – In those three games, Barca have scored a tidy seven goals.
 – However, Barcelona have yet to concede a goal in any competitive match this season.

Granada form & balance check

Granada FC are still searching for their first win of the season. After two respectable draws at the start against Villareal and Valencia, there were two defeats in a row recently. In the away game against Rayo Vallecano, the promoted team suffered a 4-0 defeat, followed by a 2-1 loss against Betis Sevilla. Granada are in need of a turnaround, but the away trip to the Camp Nou is more than thankless for that purpose.

Familiar names in the squad

The quality of the Andalusian squad is actually much better than the league position suggests. Among the newcomers in particular, there are some well-known names. For example, the squad includes former Bundesliga players with international experience such as Sergio Escudero (formerly of Schalke 04) and Santiago Arias. The latter was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen last season, but only played one game for the Werkself due to a serious injury. Granada also brought in the experienced striker Carlos Bacca before the season, who has already won several European titles.

Granada Facts & Analysis
 – Granada FC are still without a win in the league.
 – Granada have not yet scored a single goal away from home.
 – At the moment Granada are in 17th place with two points.

Predicted line-up – last update on 17 September 2021

We expect Barcelona to line up in this game more like they did in the last league game against Getafe. The three-man backline from the Bayern game should thus be history again. In general, however, coach Ronald Koeman has a few options for rotation. With various new arrivals and players returning from injury, the coach is slowly spoilt for choice again. Granada’s line-up should be similar to the one from the narrow defeat against Betis Sevilla.
