FC Augsburg – Borussia Dortmund

After two clear home victories in a row, the Black and Yellows are now hoping to finally get back on track away from home. BVB has currently gone four games without a win away from home. However, a look at the history should give Dortmund fans some hope. In two of its five championships in Bundesliga history, Borussia Dortmund took the lead in the standings only after the 32nd matchday. This was the case in the 1994/95 and 2001/02 seasons.
Their opponents from Augsburg, however, have completely different plans for Sunday. The Fuggerstädter may still need every point in the fight against going down to the 2nd Bundesliga. Before the matchday, Augsburg’s lead over the relegation place is only four points. Should Schalke, Bochum and Hoffenheim pick up points on Saturday, FCA would be under pressure against BVB. Augsburg Form & Balance Check
Coach Enrico Maaßen is once again in a relegation battle with his FC Augsburg this season. The Fuggerstädter are currently three places and four points above the relegation zone. Dortmund form & balance check
After an extremely choppy 2022, it seemed unlikely for a long time that Dortmund would be in any kind of contention for the championship. Borussia only found itself in sixth place at the turn of the year. Even qualification for the Champions League again seemed to be in jeopardy.
In the new year, however, Edin Terzic’s team showed an outstanding series and even fought its way back to the top of the table. At present, however, BVB is one point behind the record champions from Munich. BVB won their last two home games against Wolfsburg and Gladbach with a goal difference of 11:2.
Strong offensive trio
While BVB often despaired in attack in the Hinrunde, Borussia is now whirling around much more on the offensive again. In the 15 games of the second half of the season so far, Dortmund has already scored 16 more goals than in the entire first half of the season.
The current trio in attack is emblematic of this. BVB’s offensive line, consisting of Haller, Malen and Adeyemi, remained scoreless in the first half of the season. While Haller was absent with cancer, Malen and Adeyemi were completely out of form. But in the second half of the season, the three have combined for an impressive 22 goals.

We expect FCA to be back in a 3-4-3 on Sunday, with Tomas Koubek again in the box for Augsburg. Maier will again operate on the right wing. Robert Gumny, however, is missing for the Fuggerstädtern with a yellow suspension.
Coach Edin Terzic has no reason to make any major changes to his team. We therefore expect the same starting eleven that recently defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 5:2. Malen, Haller and Adeyemi will once again make a splash in the attack.
