Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich
On the 14th matchday of the Bundesliga, the time has finally come – the top match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich is coming up. The whistle will be blown for the clash between the Bundesliga leaders and the runners-up on Saturday at the top match time at 6:30 pm.
For the 12th time in the last ten years and the 17th time overall, BVB and Bayern will meet as first and second. As is so often the case, it is currently Bayern who greet us from the top of the table. With a defeat on Saturday, however, Dortmund would take the lead in the standings for the time being. Whether we think BVB can make this leap and what we think about the German classic can be found in our Dortmund vs Bayern tip.

Dortmund – Bayern Tip
The starting situation is clear: Whoever wins the top match on Saturday will go into the following matchday as the league leader. In the event of a draw, Bayern will remain at the top. Should the record champions take three points from Signal Iduna Park, they would extend their lead to four points. In that case, it would probably only take one or two slip-ups by BVB before the record champions could be unofficially congratulated on their next championship. The hosts must therefore avoid defeat at all costs if they are to retain a say in the battle for the trophy.
Dortmund Form & Balance Check
Break a sigh of relief at BVB! A few days before the summit meeting with FC Bayern Munich, it looks strongly as if both Erling Haaland and Raphael Guerreiro will be available for the top match. Haaland celebrated his 20-minute comeback only last weekend in Wolfsburg and immediately scored again. Guerreiro returned to action on matchday 12 against Stuttgart after a lengthy injury layoff, but was forced to miss two competitive matches again due to complaints.
BVB with two new records?
Only if they are in top form on Saturday will BVB have any chance at all. Although the Black and Yellows have been able to maintain their flawless home record in recent weeks, even without the two key players, they have not hosted any top teams. Dortmund has now won the last eleven Bundesliga home games (all seven this season). Two club records could now be set: in 1994 Dortmund won twelve Bundesliga home games in a row, and in 1965/66 and 1992/93 they won eight home games in a row within one season. However, BVB have lost all of their last three home games against Bayern.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– 30 points from 13 games
– Last won 1:3 in Wolfsburg
– Last 11 Bundesliga home games won
– Lost last 3 home games against Bayern
Bayern Form & Balance Check
Bayern have not lost any of the last 15 Bundesliga matches in which the first met the second (eleven wins, four draws). This statistic shows how well the German record champions can handle pressure and how good they are at putting in their best performance when such an important game as the top match against Dortmund is on the agenda. In recent weeks, the performances and results have not been particularly convincing, but this is exactly the phenomenon that has been observed many times in recent years.Whenever you think Bayern seem to be vulnerable right now, they come back impressively with a real show of power.
Bayern back in top form on time?
For example, we remember the period between March 2018 and November 2019 when the Munich side won three home games in a row against Dortmund with 6:0, 5:0 and 4:0. After the defeat in Augsburg (2:1), the narrow 1:2 win at Dynamo Kiev and the narrow 1:0 home win against Arminia Bielefeld, it currently looks like BVB have a realistic chance again on Saturday. However, these hopes could quickly be dashed again. With only one exception, FC Bayern has scored directly in the first half in each of the last 15 duels with BVB.
Bayern facts & Analysis
– 31 points from 13 games
– Last win 1:0 against Bielefeld
– 102 goals in 34 Bundesliga games in 2021.
– Won last 6 duels with Dortmund
Predicted line-up – last update on 2 December 2021
The fitness of Jude Bellingham is still in question. If he is not fit, Julian Brandt could take over his position and Donyell Malen could move into the starting eleven on the wing. Erling Haaland and Raphael Guerreiro will most likely play from the start. Emre Can and Mahmoud Dahoud should also start. Still missing through injury are Giovanni Reyna and Youssoufa Moukoko.
Bayern will have to do without Joshua Kimmich (corona) against Dortmund, who will not be able to take time off until shortly before the Barcelona game. He is likely to be replaced again by Corentin Tolisso. Otherwise, we do not expect any surprises in the starting eleven. However, Serge Gnabry could also play instead of Kingsley Coman. Otherwise, only Marcel Sabitzer is missing due to injury. Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting is out, just like Kimmich, due to a Corona infection.
