Barcelona -Real Madrid Tip
Neither of the two giants is at the top of the table at the moment. The Real Sociedad team is currently there with 20 points, although they have already played one game more. Real are in second place with 17 points, the Catalans in seventh with 15. For both clubs, it is therefore a matter of not losing touch with the top of the table in the short term. The Royals will also be looking to avoid failing to record a win in their third league game in a row after picking up just one point from their last two matches.
Barcelona form & balance check
Although FC Barcelona are currently seen by the public as a club in absolute crisis, they have only suffered one defeat in the first nine games of the Spanish championship (2-0 at Atletico Madrid). Losing to the reigning champions is by no means a disgrace, but Barcelona are more likely to be upset about the numerous draws at the start of the season. Of the first five games, three ended in a draw. And the opponents – Athletic Bilbao (1:1), FC Granada ((1:1) and FC Cadiz (0:0) – were not exactly among the elite of Spanish football.
Comeback of Ansu-Fati gives hope
In the last three games, apart from the defeat against Atletico, Barca have managed two victories. First Barca won against Levante with 3-0, then against FC Valencia with 3-1. The return of super talent Ansu-Fati played a decisive role, especially in the latest victory against Valencia. He scored the 1:0 and took the penalty for the 2:0. The hopes of the Catalans in the Classico rest on his shoulders. However, the dress rehearsal for the important match was not very promising. Barcelona just managed to win 1-0 against Dynamo Kiev on Matchday 3 of the Champions League, thus earning their first three points after defeats against Bayern and Benfica.
Barcelona facts & analysis
– 15 points from 8 games
– Last win 3:1 against Valencia
– Scored in 34 of last 35 league home games
– Lost last 3 Classicos
Real Madrid form & balance check
The Royals can be much happier with the way the season has gone so far than their big rivals from Barcelona. Real started the season with five wins from their first six games, only against Levante they did not manage more than a draw. More important, however, was the manner of the victories. Los Blancos scored at least four goals in three of their five victories. Besides the 1:4 at Deportivo Alaves, there was a 5:2 against Celta Vigo and a 6:1 against RCD Mallorca. Only the last two matches dampened the euphoria a bit.
Real by no means perfect, but on a good path
The 0-0 draw with Villarreal was followed by a 2-1 defeat at Espanyol Barcelona last matchday, marking their third win in their last four encounters after a previous five-game winless run. In the Champions League, Real have won two out of three games so far. The only defeat in this competition so far (but a very embarrassing one) was at home against Moldovan representative Sheriff Tiraspol (2:1).
All in all, however, it can be said that Real currently makes a much more solid impression than FC Barcelona. This was also proven by the 5-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk last week, in which the royals really turned up the heat after a weak first half. Especially the offensive talents Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo are giving the supporters more and more joy.
Real Madrid Facts & Analysis
– 17 points from 8 games
– Last lost 2:1 at Espanyol
– 4th Classico win in a row would be longest winning streak since 1965.
– Could lose two league games in a row for first time since 18/19 under Zidane
Predicted line-up – last update on 22 October 2021
Barcelona continue to be without Ousmane Dembélé, Pedri, Ronald Araujo and Martin Braithwaite, so the starting eleven almost makes itself up. Eric Garcia and Gerard Pique are likely to start in central defence. The midfield is set, with Sergio Dest, Memphis Depay and Ansu-Fati likely to play in the attack.
Real will be without Gareth Bale, Dani Ceballos and Luka Jovic. There should be no surprises in the starting eleven. The midfield trio will probably be formed by Champions League guarantors Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro. In addition to Karim Benzema, we can expect to see Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in the offensive line-up.
🤯 Una obra maestra…
