Betting odds, Tennis Tip & Prediction for Jan-Lennard Struff – Daniel Elahi Galan
It’s serving time again in Indian Wells! After a year’s break, California has its popular Masters back, quite a few top stars announced their coming. The very best enjoy a bye first, while some others have to play in round 1.
This also applies to all Germans, as long as they don’t go by the name of Alexander Zverev. Jan-Lennard Struff will start the tournament with a more than beatable opponent. Will the favourite really get off to a good start this evening?
It has long been common knowledge that Alexander Zverev in his current form is one of the favourites for the title all over the world. But what are the other German players up to in sunny California?
Some of them are in Indian Wells, among them Jan-Lennard Struff. The 31-year-old has not been convincing in the last competitions and wants to finally find his way back to his old strength.
In the past eight tournaments, he has failed seven times directly in round 1. In Metz he lost early to Mikael Ymer, at the US Open he was defeated in a five-set thriller by Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands
Since his great performances at the French Open, where he only lost his nerve in the last 16 against Diego Schwartzman, Struff has been in a bad way. At least he can draw on positive memories here in Indian Wells.
The last time the Masters was held in 2019, the German was in absolute top form. He beat three opponents who were ranked much higher. The highlight: the clear victory with 6-3, 6-1 against Alexander Zverev!
Struff only lost to Milos Raonic in the last 16. That he will make it that far this time already seems unrealistic with regard to the table. In Round 2, the seeded Fabio Fognini was waiting, then – if everything goes as usual – even Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The bookmakers are even not quite sure about Daniel Galan, whether he could not become a stumbling block for Struff.
Admittedly, the bookmakers are talking about a lucky draw for the Colombian. A player Jan-Lennard Struff shouldn’t really have any problems with on a normal day, but that’s exactly what can never be accurately predicted in tennis betting.
The world number 105 is serving in Indian Wells for the first time, so he has no experience. Experience is a good keyword, because there is none, even in a direct comparison.
The 25-year-old has never met the German, so we will see a real premiere duel. Galan is not in a strong form either, his last few tournaments were very disappointing.
In Wimbledon he surprised with two positive performances, forcing Lorenzo Sonego into five sets in Round 2. After that, however, the curve pointed steeply downwards.
In the last few tournaments, including the US Open, Galan did not even get past the first hurdle in the qualifying. Things are not going well for the Colombian, but at least he can take credit for giving his opponents exhausting matches.
For some months now, he has almost always failed in three rounds, so Struff should also be warned. It’s quite interesting anyway that a win by Galan is only listed with an average 2.80, so such an ending would certainly not be a sensation.
In this respect, my Struff Galan tip focuses not only on a possible winner, but also on when the match will be over. Both players have not played their best tennis in the last few weeks.
Struff was usually eliminated against relatively strong opponents, while Galan regularly lost in the qualifying rounds. For me, the German is also the favourite, but I wouldn’t bet on too easy a win.
For that, Galan, although he always goes home early, usually makes it much too difficult for his competitors. The Colombian is a fighter – and Struff also needs to redeem himself after disappointing results.
