Tennis Today – Matches on September 9, 2026

What a scene it was yesterday when Michelsen cried on his buddy Tiafoe’s shoulder after that dramatic five-set thriller!

My US Open tips today focus on the big showdown. As the final quarterfinals get underway, the bookmakers’ odds boosts are getting more and more generous, and Zverev’s chances of winning his second title are growing. Especially since top favorite Carlo Alcaraz was knocked out this morning (Wednesday) in a five-set match against Ben Shelton.

Tennis Picks Today – September 9, 2026: The Round of 16 is underway!

Women’s tennis is often more exciting than men’s. At Grand Slams, it’s not uncommon for underdogs ranked outside the top 100 to go on a sensational run—at this year’s US Open, it’s Zheng who’s causing a sensation!

My US Open picks today include two quarterfinal matches each from the ATP and WTA. I’m paying special attention to the match between Khachanov and Blockx, as I’ll be placing an underdog bet on the Belgian, who’s been playing very well.

Zverev is also in the mix, but I’m not worried about the German: Against the Dutch player—who deserves the utmost respect for reaching this round—it should generally be a very one-sided affair.

US Open Picks Today, Sept. 9: Khachanov – Blockx (7:00 p.m.)

The experienced Khachanov fought his way into the quarterfinals in a five-set thriller against Learner Tien. His powerful serve reliably delivers free points, but physically, he’s coming off some grueling rounds.

Blockx, however, is on a roll. He wins over 82% of points on his first serve, hits his forehand with no hesitation, and serves nearly twice as many aces per match as the Russian.

Khachanov will likely reach his physical limits tonight against the relentless pace of the young Belgian.

My pick: I now believe Blockx is capable of anything!

US Open betting tonight: Zverev – van de Zandschulp (2:00 a.m.)

The Dutchman is enjoying an epic run in New York, but has left a lot of physical energy on the court: After the five-set thriller against Bergs, he once again defeated Arthur Géa in the fifth set in the round of 16—the fourth-longest match in US Open history.

And without wanting to take anything away from his success, I honestly still wonder how he managed to make it this far at all. This is certainly a favorable draw for Sascha.

On the lightning-fast Laykold cement, Zverev will uncompromisingly dictate the pace on his serve and chase the Dutchman down the lines with flat baseline shots.

Van de Zandschulp’s venomous backhand slices will hardly rattle the German, as Zverev brings the necessary composure and reach to hard courts.

My prediction: Unfortunately, this should be a very one-sided match!

US Open today: Zheng – Rybakina (5:30 p.m.)

The Chinese player demonstrated breathtaking stamina in her Round of 16 triumph over Iga Świątek. Her first serve packs brutal power, but the effort took a huge toll on her stamina.

Seeded No. 2, the Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina, on the other hand, marched through the rounds with ice-cold precision and eliminated Naomi Osaka in the round of 16. She spent significantly less time on the court.

Still, I don’t dare predict a 2-0 win for Rybakina. If Zheng hits her topspin shots the way she did against Świątek, things could go the other way…

My prediction: It won’t be a walk in the park for Rybakina!

US Open Prediction Tonight: Andreeva – Gauff (6:30 p.m.)

The No. 5-seeded French Open champion is marching through Flushing Meadows with tremendous confidence. Her tactical maturity from the baseline is outstanding, but against Gauff, she has historically lacked that decisive shot to relieve pressure.

Coco Gauff, the 2023 champion and world No. 4, is in absolutely phenomenal form: the American has 10 straight wins and 20 consecutive sets to her credit. She seems athletically unstoppable.

And now for the real kicker: The American has come out on top in all five of their head-to-head matchups so far—including a straight-sets victory at the 2023 US Open and, most recently, in May 2026 in a three-set thriller in Rome.

My prediction: Gauff is a tough matchup for the Russian!

Seville betting today, Sept. 9: Olivieri – Pereira (11:00 a.m.)

I see this turning into an intense, grueling battle from the baseline. Pereira possesses fantastic defensive skills on clay and forces his opponents to hit extra shots constantly. However, the grueling qualifying rounds are taking a massive toll on the Portuguese player’s physical reserves.

Olivieri brings a heavier forehand to clay and is excellent at driving angled shots deep into the court. As soon as the rallies get longer, the Argentine benefits from his freshness, dictates the big points with his first serve, and forces Pereira into avoidable errors.

My pick: Olivieri just needs to be a little patient!

Seville Picks Today: Lagutin vs. Gurri (3:00 p.m.)

The 21-year-old qualifier Pavel Lagutin is plowing through Andalusia with impressive confidence. After three straight wins, he made another strong statement in the main draw with a straight-sets victory over Vilius Gaubas.

I see this as a fairly one-sided match. Lagutin brings plenty of match experience and an unshakable rhythm from the qualifying rounds, and he recently won several clay-court tournaments in Spain.

My pick: Lagutin is brimming with confidence!
