Tennis Tips for Today – Today’s Matches on July 31
Tennis is played all over the world, especially in the summer! I’m not going to miss the chance to bet on some interesting matches at smaller tournaments, which are also listed by bookmakers with cash-out options.
My tennis tips today cover a total of five tournaments. The standout match is definitely Jodar vs. Musetti in Washington, but I’m also paying close attention to the Challenger tournaments in Bonn and Liberec!
Tennis Tips Today – July 31, 2026 Preview of Washington
The US Open is about to begin, and every top-200 pro who wants to be there is currently hard at work playing warm-up tournaments. I’ve taken a close look at the entire day’s tennis offerings from top bookmaker Oddset to identify the best bets.
For the first time in my “Tennis Tip of the Day” column, I’ll also be covering some smaller matches from selected Challenger tournaments that have caught my interest. After all, tax-free bookmakers don’t always favor the player I consider to be the better one.
But there will be plenty of space in today’s article for Jodar vs. Musetti. These two top players are set to put up a tough fight in Washington, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the winner ends up taking home the title at this 500-level tournament as well.
Washington Picks Today, July 31: Fritz – Michelsen (5:00 p.m.)
Although Fritz arrives with the aura of a top-10 player, he traditionally struggles immensely against this tactically incredibly clever youngster of all people.
Their head-to-head record tells a completely surprising story, as Michelsen emerged victorious in both Geneva in 2024 and at the Indian Wells Masters in the spring of 2026.
Especially in his hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 victory in the California desert, Michelsen showed the veteran his limits with ice-cold baseline play and flawless defensive work.
Fritz will therefore be fired up to finally break this painful streak and capitalize on his physical superiority on the hard courts of Washington.
His thunderous forehand and dominant first-round performance against Kamil Majchrzak underscore his determination to go for the title here at full speed.
Still, I don’t expect an easy match, as Michelsen, with his unflappable style of play, adapts to every change in rhythm.
My pick: Michelsen knows how to take on Fritz!
Washington Picks for Today, July 31: Jodar – Musetti (5:00 p.m.)
In the Washington quarterfinals, rising Spanish star Rafael Jodar faces Italian precision player Lorenzo Musetti. A showdown between two top-class technicians is on the horizon—one I’ve already highlighted in bold!
Jodar has had an outstanding season recently. Following an impressive victory over Kei Nishikori, the youngster is shining in Washington, particularly with his mental toughness and footwork.
Musetti, on the other hand, fought his way back into the quarterfinals after an injury layoff. Despite his technical prowess with his one-handed backhand, however, the Italian shows weaknesses on his own serve.
That’s precisely why I see the Spaniard in a clearly better position. His odds of around 1.55 are also fair, given that he managed to beat Fils without dropping a set before taking down Nishikori—respect!
My pick: If Musetti’s serve doesn’t hold up, things look bleak!
Memphis Picks for Today, July 31: Zakharova – Zarazua (5:00 p.m.)
The quarterfinals in Memphis feature an absolutely fascinating matchup on hard court between the in-form Russian Anastasia Zakharova and the tenacious Mexican Renata Zarazua.
Zakharova has impressed throughout the tournament so far with her relentless offensive drive, defeating Camila Osorio, among others, in two flawless sets.
Renata Zarazua counters with tremendous defensive footwork and proverbial tenacity, but often fades in long, grueling rallies after physically draining matches. That could happen to her again this time!
Since both players are closely matched in the rankings and this first-ever head-to-head on the tour is a true battle of equals, tactical patience on the baseline will be the deciding factor.
Consequently, I expect a hard-fought rally in which Zakharova’s higher pace could ultimately set the tone for a possible 2-1 victory in sets.
My pick: It’ll likely go to a deciding set!
WTA Washington Picks Today, July 31: Cocciaretto – Osaka (4:00 p.m.)
Naomi Osaka is radiating a very special aura these days on her beloved hard court.
The four-time Grand Slam champion literally swept her first-round opponent off the court and immediately puts her relentless stamp on the rallies with her explosive serve and powerful tennis.
The first official Tour matchup between the two promises pure thrills: While Cocciaretto tries to throw Osaka off her game with slow drop shots and heavy spin, the Japanese player consistently seeks a quick finish with her forehand cross-court shot.
All in all, I see the Japanese player entering this match as the clear favorite. Especially since she’s been gaining momentum since the start of the tournament and should once again overwhelm Cocciaretto with her sheer power, just as she did in Miami two years ago!
My pick: Osaka’s power will overwhelm the Italian!
Bonn Picks Today, July 31: Mackenzie – Rodionov (5:00 p.m.)
Although Mackenzie is bringing a carefree attitude to the quarterfinals in Bonn, she faces a truly daunting task against the experienced Austrian.
Rodionov has proven his class on clay in recent rounds and dictates the rallies with his thunderous left-handed forehand. His clever drop shots and high consistency on serve make it extremely difficult for opponents to find their own rhythm.
Mackenzie will have to try to keep the pace high and put Rodionov under pressure early on. However, once the Austrian takes control, it will be difficult for the underdog to hold his own in the long baseline rallies.
In the end, Rodionov’s sheer experience and greater consistency will prevail in this clay-court match.
My pick: Rodionov’s experience pays off!
Liberec Picks for Today, July 31: Gombos – Feldbausch (2:30 p.m.)
Now let’s turn our attention to Liberec! There, Gombos fought his way through a grueling battle in the previous round, defeating Franco Roncadelli 2-1 in sets and expending a great deal of energy in the process!
Kilian Feldbausch, on the other hand, is riding a wave of success and swept Duje Ajdukovic off the court in two straight sets with a flawless performance.
In a head-to-head matchup, Feldbausch also has a psychological edge: Last year, he came back from a set down to defeat the Slovak on clay in a hard-fought comeback.
Gombos is naturally eager for revenge, but he’ll have to dig extremely deep against the Swiss player’s fresh waves of offense.
My pick: Feldbausch powers his way through!
